Position Summary
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing mechanical designs and equipment including technology transfer of manufacturing processes into new production locations.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer ensures efficient and compliant implementation of manufacturing processes at a multi-national network of internal and external production sites.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the development of equipment, test methods and ensuring the designs meet relevant requirements at the site from a regulatory, customer and quality perspective.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer works as part of the Global Procurement Engineering team and works closely with Global Procurement Category teams to deliver new manufacturing processes for our suppliers, new manufacturing equipment to our sites and packaging technologies.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer should have specific experience and knowledge in packaging engineering and manufacturing environments.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer must maintain communication across the organization to ensure alignment and engagement with the Manufacturing Division network and assure a high degree of customer service.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer must lead the technical program management of technology transfer programs including stakeholders across Quality Operations, Global Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Supplier Network, Alliance Management and Suppliers, in addition to the Global Procurement Engineering team.
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer is accountable for ensuring all mechanical engineering deliverables are achieved within agreed cost, time and resource constraints.
Primary Activities/Responsibilities
- Lead development of mechanical equipment and systems to support packaging and manufacturing operations.
- Provide expertise for mechanical design, verification, validation, and qualification of equipment.
- Manage mechanical engineering deliverables for technology transfer of products and processes into new production locations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design requirements are met for quality, regulatory, safety, and operational needs.
- Develop and execute equipment test methods, protocols, and technical documentation.
- Support installation, commissioning, and qualification of manufacturing equipment at internal and external sites.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical issues during equipment build, test, and production startup.
- Ensure compliance with company engineering standards, cGMP requirements, regulatory guidelines, and safety practices.
- Collaborate with Procurement Engineering and Category Management to evaluate, qualify, and improve supplier capabilities.
- Provide mechanical engineering input to support cost, schedule, and resource planning for projects.
- Lead equipment FAT, SAT, and validation activities.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers in mechanical engineering methods and best practices.
- Maintain strong engagement with Manufacturing Division stakeholders.
- Support strategic initiatives to improve equipment performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Education Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering.
- Master's Degree in engineering or engineering management desirable.
Required Experience And Skills
- Evidence of experience working with advanced mechanical design in regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or similar.
- Evidence of experience delivering technology transfer of mechanical equipment or systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, test methods, mechanical design tools, and mechanical design analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with structured root cause analysis tools such as 8D, 5Why, Ishikawa.
- Experience in the manufacturing environment producing complex mechanical or electro-mechanical systems and products.
- Familiarity with regulatory and quality requirements.
Pay Rate Range: $50-66/hr depending on experience
