The Medical Director (MD) of the Respiratory Therapy Program provides competent medical guidance and assists the Program Director (PD) and Director of Clinical Education (DCE) to ensure the didactic, laboratory, and supervised clinical instruction meet current practice guidelines. The MD must be a licensed physician and Board certified (as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)) in a specialty relevant to respiratory care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend advisory committee meetings
  • Communicate (by email, phone, or in person) with Program Director, Director of Clinical Education, and program faculty when clinical questions arise (as needed)
  • Review of programmatic goals (annually)
  • Complete Program Personnel Resource Survey (annually)
  • Assist in facilitating student/physician interaction (as needed)
  • Engage students in bedside teaching at clinic and/or affiliate (as available)
  • Provide one presentation for students (per semester)

Academic qualifications

The successful candidate must be a licensed physician and Board certified (as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)) in a specialty relevant to respiratory care.

Other desired qualities

A strong commitment to the growth of the respiratory care profession. Working knowledge of the respiratory therapists' role in healthcare.
