The Food Pantry and Volunteer Support Specialist assists with the day-to-day operations of the JFSA Food Pantry and provides support with volunteer coordination and food rescue activities. This position helps ensure that food distribution, organization, and client service run smoothly while maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. The Specialist will also assist with volunteer scheduling, orientation, and supervision during pantry hours and pop-up events.

This role is hands-on and involves physical work, teamwork, and regular interaction with clients, volunteers, and community partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Volunteer Support

  • Assist with recruiting, scheduling, and communicating with pantry volunteers.
  • Help train volunteers on pantry procedures, safety, and client service.
  • Support volunteers during daily pantry operations and pop-up distributions.
  • Track volunteer attendance and hours for reporting.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive volunteer environment.

Pantry and Food Rescue Operations

  • Assist with receiving and unloading deliveries from Three Square and food rescue partners.
  • Sort, weigh, and organize donated products; ensure accurate reporting and logging.
  • Stock pantry shelves, refrigerators, and freezers using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.
  • Monitor product quality and remove items showing signs of spoilage.
  • Assist with van loading and unloading for food pickups, deliveries, or pop-up markets.
  • Perform regular housekeeping duties, including cleaning, organizing, and sanitizing all pantry areas.
  • Record client assistance and pantry data accurately in intake software.
  • Support pop-up markets and special events as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs. daily.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain ServSafe Food Handler's Certificate.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
  • Must pass background check.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying. Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. and operate pantry vans when applicable.

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 39 per week
