How will you make a difference?

The Integrated Solutions organization within Digital Electronics is responsible for ensuring Wabtec products and external systems work together as a solution that reliably achieves customer objectives. This is accomplished by working across business units within Digital Electronics to understand and document the solution requirements, establish, and document interface points, flow down requirements, and validate the final solution. The Solutions Systems Engineer for DE's Integrated Solutions team will be responsible for the solution stewardship from concept development to solution level requirements and their flow down, Solution platform and architecture. Will lead in developing the technology road maps at the solution level, lead in development of robust engineered solutions for the railroad industry with highly cohesive and loosely coupled internal and external constituent systems meeting the customer requirements with a strong FPY.

What will your typical day look like?

The Solutions Systems Engineer will collaborate and work closely with the individual product's systems engineering team members and be responsible for

  • Reviewing Customer requirements or request for information (RFI) or requests for proposal (RFP) to elicit the solution level requirements
  • Developing the solution concept and architecture that aligns with the customer request, working with the constituent product teams
  • Being a consultant through the individual constituent product's concept development and reviews, estimation process and schedule/plan development
  • Technical responses to RFP/RFIs through the pre-contract phase
  • Creating Solution level requirements agnostic to the project, their flow down and traceability through the constituent products and their subsystems
  • Solution architecture and design agnostic to the project
  • Interface development and/or management for the various interfaces between the internal constituent products as well as the external products/systems.
  • Being a consultant through the individual constituent product's detail design and development process
  • Patterning with the integration test engineers to drive the Solution Integration Test plan and procedures
  • Solution Architecture and Design Change management through the business change management processes.
  • Partnering with the individual constituent product teams in field testing and field monitoring of the solutions at the customer
  • Providing technical leadership for all technology issue resolution that might arise across functional teams in assigned work streams
  • Lead the efforts in generating the customer requirement compliance matrices
  • Remain current in the state of art within own technical specialty for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions
  • Identify technical risks of design and implementation of new solutions and applications, and help define mitigation for the risks
  • Act as a technical mentor and coach to the other engineers across the DE organization to help build a strong pipeline of talent
  • Closely work with the senior management on organizational initiatives around culture and speed, embrace the initiatives to become the change agent and act as a role model for the other engineers
  • Evaluate and protect the intellectual property

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university (Master's Degree strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a Systems Engineering role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad railroad experience pertaining to locomotive technologies, operations and operating practices of the railroads, and broad skill areas related to hardware, software, mechanical design as well as communications and infrastructure
  • Deep technical understanding of the Digital Electronics Product Portfolio
  • Systems design, operations, and integration experience
  • Locomotive Systems Design Experience.
  • Railroad Industry Experience.
  • Experience working with Requirements Management Tools such as ELM, Doors, Doors Next Gen etc.
  • Self-starter with the ability to lead with minimum supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
