General Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources Operations (VP, HRO), the HR Partner provides generalist HR support to all departments of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement (PAE) team. The HR Partner will administer and participate in the development and implementation of pro-active strategies and services that support an effective organization-wide human resources program with focused attention on onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compensation and compliance in addition to policy consultation/creation.

  Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure organizational and department compliance by maintaining personnel files and human resources policies and procedures in compliance with applicable legal requirements, keeping employee records up to date by processing employee status changes in a timely fashion.
  • Process personnel updates and ensure proper approvals, disseminate approved forms; and required recordkeeping.
  • Leads all employee relations activities, including ensuring thorough and objective investigations as necessary.
  • Provides initial counsel to managers and employees on performance issues, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Administration of UAF compensation structure to include applying to new/vice positions in preparation for recruitment and in ensuring employees fit within appropriate salary grades.
  • Leads annual open enrollment and new hire benefits enrollment, partnering with payroll for documentation and transactions as necessary.
  • Provide research and subject matter expertise for effective problem resolution of employee relations issues including maintaining appropriate records in ADP.
  • Accountable for completion, proper routing and filing of employee documents (i.e. employment verifications, unemployment insurance claims, FML, short/long term disability claims, etc.) according to Foundation policy and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Oversees UAF employee parking, maintains temporary parking list and partners with payroll on parking allowance.
  • Collaborates with hiring managers to develop job descriptions, salary grades, job postings in preparation of recruitment.
  • Responds to employee questions and/or request in person, by email or phone and provide general direction as needed.
  • Liaise with University of Arizona Human Resources Department on employee transactions, promotions, DDC submittals and incumbent reviews as necessary.
  • Serves as initial contact for facilities management concerns, coordinates risk management activities and safety programs as applicable.
  • In collaboration with HR administrative assistant, maintains facilities management ticketing system regarding building and property maintenance, seeking bids as necessary, meeting FM staff and attending all building manager training and meetings.
  • Provide counsel on policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluations.
  • Administer employee benefits programs such as medical, dental, vision, group life and disability plans, and retirement plans.
  • Evaluate existing organizational benefits by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.  Plan, develop, and/or participate in area and industry surveys; analyze results and develop specific recommendations for review by leadership.
  • Partners to communicate and train on HR policies, procedures, programs and laws.
  • Handle benefit inquiries/issues to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution.
  • Maintains an awareness and understanding through continuing education of trends, regulatory changes, employment law, new technologies and other developments in human resources and provide recommendations to VP as appropriate.
  • Participates in special projects as needed and performs other responsibilities reasonably related to the HR team and position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in human resources management or related field.Six (6) years of human resources generalist experience; ORAny equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education as approved by Human Resources.

Work Environment:

This position will be required to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.  Standard office environment with high exposure to computer screens.  Must be able to walk and climb stairs for various office locations.Valid driver's license.
