It's a new day with a new opportunity at 8am
About the role:
The Senior Engineering Manager, Growth is responsible for leading engineering teams focused on building the infrastructure, tooling, and experiences that drive data-driven growth across our product portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our transformation from an exclusively sales-led organization focused on point solution adoption to a nimble multi-channel, multi-service platform that grows with our customers.
You will lead two core teams: the Growth Enablement team building foundational infrastructure (customer data platforms, experimentation frameworks, feature flagging systems, and analytics infrastructure), and the First Time Use team optimizing trial experiences, onboarding flows, and activation moments that drive conversion and early engagement.
This position will run projects that include deploying product updates, building scalable growth infrastructure, optimizing conversion funnels, and implementing integrations that meet customer needs while enabling rapid experimentation and data-driven decision making.
About us:
At 8am, our vision is to power a world where professionals thrive. We start every day on a mission to empower professionals with the most trusted, innovative technology to deliver world-class outcomes for their clients and exceptional financial results for their business. They count on our purpose-built solutions to simplify operations, ensure compliance, and fuel profitable growth, so they can focus on their clients and do more of the work that matters.
Founded in 2005, 8am (formerly AffiniPay) is the professional business platform built to help legal, accounting, and other client-focused professionals run stronger, more profitable businesses. Today, more than 250,000 professionals across the U.S. trust 8am to help them work smarter, serve clients better, and unlock their full potential. We have been recognized as one of Inc 5000's fastest growing companies in the U.S. for 13 years in a row, and as a result, our teams continue to grow as well
What you'll do:
- Urgency: You move quickly, ship iteratively, and prioritize speed of learning over perfect solutions—building MVPs that validate hypotheses rapidly
- Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift based on data, and can pivot technical approaches when experiments suggest a better path forward
- Innovative Thinker: Excitement for building elegant technical solutions that enable delightful user experiences and unlock new growth capabilities
About you:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of experience designing, implementing, monitoring, and debugging large-scale solutions in cloud-based environments (AWS, GCE)
- Minimum of 5 years experience directly leading software developers, with at least 2+ years managing, mentoring and leading engineering teams; preference for experience in growth engineering, platform engineering, or conversion optimization
- Experience building and deploying production-grade web applications and SaaS applications at scale
- Strong understanding of growth engineering domains including experimentation platforms, customer data infrastructure, product analytics, and conversion optimization
- Experience building or managing teams that create shared infrastructure and tooling used across multiple products
- Familiarity with modern growth tech stacks (Segment, Amplitude/Mixpanel, LaunchDarkly, etc.) and ability to make informed technical decisions about tool selection and integration
- Experience supporting rapid iteration, A/B testing, and data-driven development across growth initiatives
- Experience building APIs and strong understanding of SOLID design principles and design patterns
- Expert knowledge of frontend technologies with experience writing components using React
- Strong understanding with SQL and familiarity with databases such as Postgres or MySQL
- Familiarity with LEAN product development and Agile frameworks (Scrum or Kanban)
- Partners closely with Principal Product Managers for Growth Enablement and First Time Use to align engineering execution with product vision
- Significant experience with addressing interpersonal conflicts/critical issues, organizing resources to meet strategic goals, mentoring/coaching employees, conducting employee performance evaluations, and recruiting/retaining talent
- Excellent leadership, communication, prioritization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with a track record of building and managing high-functioning, inclusive, diverse, and productive teams
- Strong teamwork and documentation skills
- Strong experience with resolving conflict and building trust within and between teams, particularly across Product, Engineering, and Data functions
- Understands and supports business objectives of Product, Data, Marketing, and Sales teams to ensure growth engineering delivers maximum impact
- Ability to balance foundational infrastructure work with rapid experimentation and customer-facing improvements
- Comfort with data-driven development practices and metrics-focused engineering culture
- Ability to identify motivational criteria of each employee individually and uses this knowledge to inspire the best possible performance
- Leads by example and acts as coach and mentor for engineers
- Sets performance objectives and conducts performance reviews on a timely basis
- Anticipates and resolves personnel issues before they become problems
