RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST (FULL TIME)

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Radiology Manager

Main Function:

Operates radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic X-ray images as directed by physicians and performs routine diagnostic procedures. Responsible for performing all diagnostic radiological procedures in a timely manner. Performs procedures according to physician's orders per prescription and protocol. As a member of the care team, the Radiologic Technologist is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care. In addition, the Radiologic Technologist must be able and willing to cross-train into other appropriate areas and/or work in all TOI offices.

Radiologic Technologist Duties

  • Positions patients and adjusts equipment for taking X-rays following established protocols
  • Instructs patients regarding procedures. Observes patients for vital signs during examination
  • Follows prescribed safety standards in operating radiologic equipment
  • Selects length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis
  • Examines radiologic images for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification, distortion and appropriate anatomy included
  • Authorizes release of patients upon completion of radiologic examination
  • Sends images to physician for reading/interpretation via Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACs)
  • Maintains X-ray rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies
  • Cleans and makes minor adjustments to radiologic equipment
  • Participates in training employees and student technologists in equipment operation, patient movement, and quality assurance
  • Maintains the PACs system by downloading outside images and ensuring that the appropriate demographic information is maintained for retrieval
  • Obtains outside images, special exams and reports by request for electronic push or hard copy
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested
  • Enhances professional growth through education programs, conferences and workshops. Maintains appropriate continuing education credits to ensure licensure
  • Maintains all patient confidentiality and HIPAA rules and regulations
  • Performs related work as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of course in radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Current certification (ARRT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Arizona State license through MRTBE
  • One year experience as a radiologic technologist preferred
  • CPR certified
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/services to the age of the patients served in the clinical facilities
  • Must possess the ability to assess data and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their specific need
  • Must be able to interact and communicate in English both orally and written with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and families in an effective manner exhibiting tact, enthusiasm and patience

  • Radiologic Technologist transfers patient for radiology procedures. Requires vertically transferring patient weighing up to (50 lbs.) from (24") to (36"), up to (40/shift)
  • Radiologic Technologist transfers film and supply boxes. Requires horizontally transferring film weighing up to (3 lbs.), up to (12/shift), a distance of up to (50 feet) without medical assistance
  • Radiologic Technologist transfers patient wheelchair to perform job duties. Must horizontally transfer patient wheelchair requiring a force up to (60 lbs.), up to (40/shift), a distance up to (50 feet)
  • Radiologic Technologist transfers x-ray tube, located 74" from the floor, to perform job duties. Requires upper body forces up to (10 lbs.), up to (12/hr.)
  • Radiologic Technologist stands to perform job duties when indicated. Requires tolerance of standing posture up to (2 hours) continuously, for a total of up to (10 hours) per (12 hours)
  • Radiologic Technologist requires (near/far) vision to read orders, requisitions, computer screen, patient positioning, and panel; all are in English
  • Radiologic Technologist is required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor for a total of up to (2 hours) per (12 hours)

Working Conditions (environmental)

  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). Possible risk of physical injury due to moving machinery and supplies.
  • OSHA risk factor is category A.
