JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Manager to lead our project management team and execute business development efforts at NW Natural Water Services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, personnel management, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to oversee multiple projects from inception to completion in addition to a strong understanding of water/wastewater utility operations and ability to develop business relationships with new and potential clients.

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the design and construction of utility improvements and new infrastructure projects with costs varying from $10,000 to over $5,000,000. The Senior Project Manager will have the knowledge and experience to work independently as a representative of utilities to deliver capital projects. They will be responsible for evaluating project options and making decisions to ensure the fulfillment of installation commitments, cost objectives, regulatory requirements, and safety & engineering standards.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, and budget, to guide the project from start to finish.
  • Collaboration: Lead the project teams that typically consist of third-party engineers, third-party contractors, other NW Natural Water Services staff, and utility operations personnel.

  • For typical projects, the Senior Project Manager will:

  • Develop preliminary cost estimates.
  • Direct the engineers through the design process and review design documents to ensure meeting project requirements.
  • Select the general contractor, subcontractors, and equipment through competitive bidding.
  • Oversee the general contractor or subcontractors, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards.
  • Coordinate with vendors and the contractors as necessary for equipment selection, delivery, and commissioning.
  • Manage the permitting and regulatory requirements, either through direct communication with the authorities having jurisdiction or directing the relevant project team members to deliver approvals.

  • Budget Management: Monitor project costs, manage budgets, and ensure financial targets are met, including managing change orders and cost control measures.

  • Scheduling: Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, coordinate with various teams to ensure timely completion, and adjust plans as necessary to address any delays or changes.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for capital projects, providing regular updates on project status to all stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and budgets.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed project records, including contracts, change orders, progress reports, and other documentation.
  • Business Development: Develop relationships with potential new clients, collaborate with operations team and functional teams to create and secure new service agreements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex construction projects.

  • Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success applying project management concepts and techniques across multiple, simultaneous projects and large, mission-critical projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing project needs.
  • Proficient in scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project).
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering and construction RFP's, construction contracts, and alternate project delivery types.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, building codes, and permitting.
  • Experience with permitting processes and regulatory compliance, particularly in the water industry.
  • Analytical skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking, with attention to detail.
  • Overseeing the commissioning and startup of water and wastewater utilities is preferred but not required.
  • PMP certification or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

BENEFITS:

NW Natural Water Services is offering full-time regular employees the following benefits. A regular full-time employee is one who works greater than 30 hours per week. All benefits start on the first of the month following your original date of employment.

  • Medical and Rx: Company will pay 75% of the premium for employee plus eligible dependents. Provider is Regence for medical and Rx.
  • Dental: Company will pay 75% of the premium for employee plus eligible dependents. Provider is Regence for dental benefits.
  • Vision: Company will pay 75% of the for vision for employee plus eligible dependents. The provider for vision benefits is Reliance.
  • 401K Benefit: Company match of 100% of employee's first 3% of elective contributions and 50% of next 2% of elective contributions (up to a maximum of 4% of eligible compensation).
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP): Employees are eligible to participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Program.
  • Life Insurance/Accidental Death and Disability (AD&D):Company provides Basic Life/AD&D insurance equal one times annual salary up to $100,000. Provider will be Reliance. Employees may purchase voluntary supplement life insurance for themselves and buy life insurance for their spouse and children. Provider is Reliance.
  • Employee Assistance Program: Provided to all employees at no cost.
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance: Short term disability benefits cover 60% of employee income up to $1,385 weekly for 24 weeks following a 14-day elimination period. This is a company paid benefit. Long term disability benefits cover 60% of employee income up to $7,000 monthly. This is a company paid benefit.
  • Accident Insurance: This is a voluntary insurance paid by the employee. Provider is Reliance for accident insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): Health and Dependent Care FSA's are available through Paychex. Allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars each year for eligible health care and dependent daycare expenses.
  • Holidays: 9 Paid Holidays - 4 floating holidays
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): New Hires accrue 15 days PTO annually starting on day 1.
