Position Summary: 

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager (GM) in ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the shop, acting as a leader on the floor and fostering the Salt & Straw culture. The AGM is responsible for supporting the team's performance and development, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and contributing to financial and operational success. They act as an extension of the GM by supervising Team Members, managing daily operations, and stepping into any role when needed to maintain high standards. 

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with and support the GM to achieve operational goals.
  • Lead the team during shifts, ensuring quality guest interactions, proper rotation of stations, completion of critical operational tasks, and seamless operational flow.
  • Create and execute the daily shift plan/daily visual planner (DVP) to optimize team deployment and shop throughput, including break scheduling, task assignments, and team safety.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback to Team Members.
  • Support recruitment, hiring, training, and retention of a high-performing team including Shift Coordinators and Scoopers.
  • Aid the GM with various administrative responsibilities, including payroll processing, supply ordering, and managing shop communications; ensure accurate documentation by maintaining the daily logbook and tracking key operational metrics such as cash handling, quality control, and team feedback.
  • Process daily cash transactions, maintain balanced change banks, and coach Shift Coordinators on accurate cash handling practices.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts for ice cream and other supplies; ensure product quality and food safety standards are maintained and facilitate the audit and correction of any issues.
  • Deliver exceptional guest service by engaging with customers, sharing flavor stories, and ensuring a welcoming environment; resolve guest complaints and issues promptly, using them as opportunities to improve service quality.
  • Assist with budget management by monitoring labor costs, tracking sales performance, and supporting the GM in completing monthly P&L analysis.
  • Partner with the GM on maintenance needs, including logging and tracking work orders; communicate with vendors on equipment repairs and ensure facilities are in optimal condition.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, health and safety regulations, and local laws.
  • Participate in local events and initiatives that support Salt & Straw's mission and values, acting as a brand ambassador within the community.
  • Perform Scooper tasks as needed, including sampling flavors for guests and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
  • Taste/sample a scoop of ice cream daily (including, when possible, different flavors of ice cream, including flavors that might not be the Team Member's personal preference), to be able to better communicate to customers why they might enjoy each flavor.
  • Foster a positive and engaging work environment for Team Members by ensuring ongoing open lines of communication, inspiring others through your words and actions, coaching for improvement and growth, and embracing Salt & Straw's mission and core values.
Qualifications

Qualifications: To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following qualifications: 

  • High school diploma/GED.  

  • 2+ years of experience in food service, fast-casual dining, or hospitality-focused industry.  

  • 18+ months of progressive experience as a leader, manager or supervisor. · Experience in leading a team of 10+ Team Members in a high-volume retail/restaurant establishment.  

  • Valid food handlers' card (required within 30 days of the start of employment or based on state or local requirement). 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills and the ability to bring Legendary Hospitality into all interactions with team, guest, and vendor relationships.  

  • Desire to coach, mentor, motivate and manage Team Members with demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.  

  • Ability to work with people of all backgrounds and identities.  

  • Passionate about delivering outstanding guest experiences and leading a team with integrity.  

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with individuals at various levels of the organization.  

  • Self-directed with organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize, work effectively and positively under pressure and amidst changing priorities.  

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a hands-on approach.  

  • Proficiency in MS Office.  

  • Fluency in English.  

  • Ability to work evenings and late nights, weekends, and holidays.

We are actively embracing pay transparency by disclosing the hiring wage for this role as $25.01-$26.67, highlighting its full earning potential within the broader range of $25.01-$30.56.
