The Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher creates a nurturing and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports each child's cognitive, social, and emotional development. By implementing play-based and engaging activities, the Lead Teacher partners with Teacher Assistants to help every child reach key developmental milestones.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Care

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming classroom setting.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to the center's approved menus.
  • Change diapers every two hours or as needed; assist toilet-trained children with bathroom routines.
  • Record diapering, meals, naps, and daily notes in Brightwheel.
  • Share at least one photo per child daily with families via Brightwheel.
  • Comfort and reassure children when upset or distressed.
  • Administer basic first aid and immediately report incidents to the Director.
  • Use gentle calming methods (such as rocking or rubbing backs) to help children rest.
  • Follow individual feeding and sleep schedules for each infant.

Learning & Classroom Activities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons in literacy, math, science, art, and sensory exploration.
  • Keep the classroom neat, engaging, and aligned with current themes.
  • Offer open-ended sensory materials (e.g., sand, rice, water) to promote creativity and exploration.
  • Use positive, age-appropriate redirection and guidance techniques.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain consistent routines and expectations.
  • Cultivate a calm, positive, and encouraging classroom atmosphere.

Teamwork & Family Communication

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Teacher Assistants and aides.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with families through consistent communication, meetings, and Brightwheel updates.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all licensing, health, and safety regulations, including diapering procedures, sun safety, and positive discipline policies.
  • Complete required training and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure continuous supervision of all children.
  • Refrain from personal cell phone use during working hours.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree with at least 9 ECE credits, or CDA (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with children ages 6 weeks–5 years.
  • Must pass all background checks.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Calm, dependable, and composed in emergencies.

Preferred

  • Excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Dependable, punctual, and adaptable to changing needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Engage in active movement (bending, crawling, climbing, running, standing for long periods).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Position Details

  • Type: Full-Time
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts (no weekends)
  • Pay: $17.00–$20.00/hour
  • Setting: In-person
