POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a resource to the shelters' social services department staff

  • Involve residents in planning Social Service program when possible

  • Provide consultation to members of staff, community agencies etc. in an effort to solve the needs and problems of residents

  • Plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Social Services Department in accordance with DHS and local standards, guidelines and regulations

  • Make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administration

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the implementation of medical, social and emotional needs of the residents

  • Participate in community planning related to the interest of the facility and the services and needs of the people served

  • Maintain necessary records and prepare regular and special reports as required

  • Engage in community outreach efforts to identify housing opportunities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with government partners, and supportive community-based organizations

  • Coordinate services with other agencies to ensure that clients receive the care needed

  • Represent BHRAGS ALLIANCE at city and statewide coalitions, task forces and committees

  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, case conferences and training seminars as indicated by the Shelter Director and/or Executive Director

  • Assist with reports and program evaluations

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director and/or Executive Director

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Human Services or related field is preferred.

  • At least three years of experience working with homeless population and four year degree.

  • At least five years of experience in a supervisory role

  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge immigration and disenfranchised communities including individuals whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, and individuals with mental health issues

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills to develop strong linkages with city and community based services to secure timely services for clients

  • Ability to be flexible with schedule and be available as needed

  • Must exhibit advance computer skills, with a firm knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse community of residents, program staff, and external partners

  • Strong time management skills and organization skills.

  • High attention to detail.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work under pressure, able to respond to a crisis situation, health or safety issue and take appropriate and immediate action
  • Ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.

The Director of Social Services will work closely with the Program Director to oversee all clinical services including programming, staff supervision, client/staff interviewing, case records review, clinical rounds, community connections and participation and compliant with BHRAGS Alliance, funding and regulatory agency policies, procedure and regulations.
