Overview
The Director of Risk plays a pivotal role within Paysafe's Merchant Risk Operations team. This position is ideal for an individual with extensive experience in a similar role. You will oversee merchant risk operations within our U.S. business, directly managing the Merchant Risk Managers and Supervisors. Your responsibilities will include driving effective decision-making and optimizing processes to reduce losses and enhance overall performance. The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in payments, risk trends, chargebacks, financial crime, and credit risk. You will act as a primary point of contact for senior stakeholders (both internal and external) handling escalations with professionalism and composure. In addition, you will support the management of third-party vendor relationships, using your subject matter expertise to enhance existing partnerships and identify new opportunities that strengthen our risk monitoring capabilities.
This role is based in our Jacksonville, Florida office and offers a flexible hybrid work environment where you will have a blend of 3 in office days and 2 remote working days during the work week
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Merchant Risk Investigators; to include training, coaching and performance management.
- Collaborate with peers and leadership to implement system / process improvements in effort to streamline and optimize the merchant risk function.
- Identify gaps in processes, opportunities for improvement and assist in the development, training, and implementation.
- Monitoring KPI and Metrics to observe performance of the risk departments with the purpose of meeting our annual risk objectives
- Working closely with the Data Science team and the Risk System in order to optimize rules and Risk Engine.
- Act as an escalation point to communicate with Executives, our Legal Department, merchants and sales offices where needed to assist.
- Oversight of the team on managing card brand and other reporting as required to comply with Paysafe and sponsor bank requirements.
- Act as escalation point of contact with sponsor banks for investigations and chargeback program management.
- Must be comfortable performing reviews on accounts and websites that may contain sensitive content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business or a related field of study or relevant experience in lieu of the degree
- At least 5 years of leading a team of risk analysts to include coaching and development.
- Eight plus (8+) years of experience in risk, underwriting or financial crime in Acquiring / Bankcard payments.
- Knowledge of various card brands (VI, MC, AX, DI) rules and regulations.
- A self-starter that requires minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability and willingness to take escalated cases and/or merchant calls, when required
- A solid sense of ownership and accountability.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make real time, informed decisions.
