Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: Boats are special — but they're loud, pollutant, unreliable, and stuck in the past. Gas-powered boats dominate not because they're great, but because no better option has existed. Until now.
Arc is here to change that. We're building 100% electric boats from the ground up — quicker, quieter, easier to maintain, and better for the water they ride on. We're not just swapping gas for batteries. We're rethinking every detail on the boat — from propulsion and powertrain to software and ownership model — applying first-principles engineering from aerospace and EVs to deliver a better boating experience.
Electric boats haven't taken over yet. The tech hasn't been ready. The talent hasn't been focused here. That's our opportunity — and we're moving fast.
What we're looking forWe're looking for someone who's fired up by our mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you adapt quickly, take ownership, and care about the details.
You will join our Production Manufacturing team as a summer intern from June 15th-August 21st 2025. You will work from our headquarters in Torrance, CA. Given that we're a startup, you will be working in a fast-moving, dynamic environment that requires adaptability. That said, here are some responsibilities and qualifications we expect to stay relatively constant for this role
Core responsibilities- Owning hardware completely, including specifications, design, prototyping, testing, and high-volume manufacturing
- Using a combination of hand calculations, prototyping, and software to engineer parts
- Being involved with building and testing of parts and systems
- Supporting the ME team in Process refinement and Improvement: Identifying inefficiencies in manufacturing processes and helping yield improvements to enhance build quality, productivity, improve safety and reduce cost.
- Build Documentation: Creating and updating work instructions, technical specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Hands on project and build experience
- Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of relevant engineering disciplines
- Exposure to manufacturing methods for engineering parts
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Familiarity with high performance electric vehicles, solar cars, Formula SAE, or similar
- First hand experience operating boats
- Prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
- Ability to articulate and defend engineering decisions
- Strong time management skills
At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You're always welcome to reach out even if you don't meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.
What we valueWe value these five things above all else:
- Ownership over both your work and the company's success
- Empathy for colleagues and for customers
- Humility in problem solving and collaboration
- Pragmatism for navigating ambiguity quickly and sensibly
- Inclusion of different backgrounds, opinions, cultures, etc.
Given that we work in a sometimes intense or stressful environment, it's vital that our values align. We'd be happy to elaborate on any or all of these during the interview process.
What you'll get- Talented teammates that challenge you to be better
- Access and often input to a wide range of business activities
- An hourly wage of $34.00
- An opportunity to have an outsized impact on industry-defining vehicles
- The ability to drive positive environmental change through your work
- Daily lunches, plenty of snacks, lots of swag, and more
- Boat rides
