The Department of Biology and the Women's Studies and Gender Studies (WSGS) Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seek qualified candidates for an appointment as Lecturer in Gender, Sexuality, and the Biology of Sex beginning Fall 2026. The Department of Biology has 48 full-time faculty members serving 1,600 undergraduate majors, many of whom strive for a career in a health-related profession. The Department offers several BS degrees and a research-based MS degree. For more information about the department, please visit its website at WSGS is an interdisciplinary program offering a diverse array of courses taught by faculty across the university, serving approximately 55 undergraduate majors and minors. We welcome candidates with a teaching profile at the interface of biology, social science, and the humanities. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Biology, with a 50% affiliation with WSGS. We welcome candidates with expertise in any discipline associated with the biology of sex, including evolution, cell biology, developmental biology, or genetics. Candidates must also have the ability to teach within the WSGS program in areas that explore the ways that sex and gender manifest themselves in social, cultural, and political arenas.

This search is part of a college-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are prepared to contribute to a culture of inclusion, committed to interdisciplinarity, and appreciative of a Jesuit, Catholic education.

This position involves teaching four courses per semester, with these courses split evenly between WSGS and the Department of Biology. Courses taught within WSGS could include Introduction to WSGS from a Global Perspective and Contemporary Issues in WSGS, as well as upper-level courses within the candidate's area of expertise. Courses taught within Biology could include General Biology lecture and lab sections as well as upper-level courses within the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate will also engage in professional development activities as well as service at the department level or above.

Additional Salary Information

The anticipated salary range for this position is in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This salary range is for a nine-month academic appointment. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree; training; field or discipline; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
