Pay Range
$1,440 - $2,000 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months' salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description
The successful job applicant will teach two sections of:
EAR 117 – Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences.
This is a 3 credit course taught in the spring semester 2026. Position begins January 5, 2026 and first day of classes is January 12, 2026. Two sections available, one instructor will be hired to teach both sections.
This course meets in-person on the Syracuse University campus.
Course Description:
A comprehensive introduction to the geology, physics, chemistry, and biology of the world ocean and its impact on global climate and environmental concerns.
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.
All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

- Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or related field.

Responsibilities
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class
- start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student
- evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instructors.
