Director of Engineering, Skillsheet

Seattle, WA - mostly WFH with in-person brainstorming and working sessions.

Skillsheet is building the world's deepest talent database. Candidates talk to our AI, the system captures how they think and problem solve, verifies their identity, and generates a dynamic profile recruiters can search in seconds. We are rebuilding the hiring stack for a world where fake profiles are everywhere and signal has collapsed.

We are early, we have revenue and investors. We are shipping fast. And we need an engineering leader who loves this stage.

What you'll own

  • Lead our engineering team through a critical phase of product expansion and integrations as we scale real customer usage
  • Partner with Co-founders
  • Build a strong engineering culture that values curiosity, ownership, and velocity
  • Ensure we ship with reliability while still moving at the speed of a seed stage team
  • Establish lightweight processes that help us grow into repeatability
  • Shape our architecture across AI workflows, data ingestion, verification pipelines, and recruiter tools
  • Recruit, coach, and level up a team of full stack and backend engineers

What you'll work on right away

  • Candidate sourcing agent
  • Scaling our AI led interview engine

Who you are

  • You've run engineering teams before and know what great + fast looks like
  • At least 5 years of work experience, 8+ preferred
  • You're comfortable in ambiguity, but you bring structure to chaos
  • You understand that engineering leadership is a mix of shipping, system design and meeting customers where they are
  • You can go deep on technical decisions without getting lost in theory
  • You value product outcomes, not just elegant systems
  • You enjoy being a "player + coach"
  • You have opinions about how AI should be used in real world systems and are excited to challenge assumptions
