The Central Sterile Processing Services (CSPS) department is at the heart of patient care at Mass General Hospital. We play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and effective care by cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, and distributing medical equipment and supplies used in surgeries, procedures, and patient care areas throughout the hospital. Responsible for performing advanced tasks in the sterile processing department within a healthcare facility.

Essential Functions
Receive and process used medical instruments and equipment from operating rooms and other departments.
Load instruments and equipment into sterilizers, adhering to prescribed loading patterns and protocols.
Perform regular quality checks to ensure instruments, equipment, and packaging materials comply with sterilization standards.
Manage inventory levels, including receiving, inspecting, and restocking sterile supplies.
Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot sterilization equipment and instruments.
Provide guidance and training to less experienced sterile processing technicians.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials
Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required
Experience
Experience as a Central Sterile Technician or similar role in a healthcare setting. 1-2 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of sterile processing principles, practices, and infection control standards.
- Familiarity with medical instruments, equipment, and surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in instrument assembly, packaging, and sterilization techniques.
- Understanding of sterilization equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
