Credit Analyst I

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
The primary objective of this position is commercial business credit underwriting, and detailed evaluation of applicants' financial histories, projections, and statements. Tasks include analyzing applicant's business plan(s), financial information, and credit worthiness which directly impacts lending decisions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Work alongside Commercial Lenders and interview current and prospective members requesting MBL services. Work closely with lenders to coordinate and finalize loan packages for approval decisions.
- Construct the analysis of financial statements, tax returns and other pertinent member business information to determine repayment ability and viability of and status of business.
- Conduct appraisal reviews and analysis to ensure compliance with governing regulation and internal policies.
- Compile and present loan packages for loan approvals and reviews needed to formulate opinions for loan decision(s).
- Ensure the protection of the credit union's interest in matters of adequate documentation and adherence to policies and the various laws and regulations applicable. Files all pertinent documents to ensure the safety of member business financial and personal information.
- Identify and evaluate lending risks, suggesting mitigating strategies and providing well-rounded recommendations. Undertake in-depth evaluations of collateral and compliance with debt service and covenants.
- Will conduct site inspections, evaluations, and any other relevant collateral items necessary to ensure compliance with regulation, approvals, and lien perfection.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and follow the requirements of all regulation compliance including but not limited to those Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), AntiMoney Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Member Due Diligence (MDD) as it specifically relates to their job functions.
- Responsible for completing BSA/AML compliance training annually.

Reports To: Vice President of Credit
Contacts: Frequent contact with commercial lenders, management, potential and current members face to face, electronically, and by telephone. Tact and diplomacy are paramount to success of position.
EDUCATION
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university (finance or business-related field is preferred).
EXPERIENCE
- Financial institution and/or accounting experience preferred.
- Must be literate in all Microsoft Office software, with special focus in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Must possess the ability to learn the credit union member data system as well as the phone system.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's license, means of transportation and be able to travel independently.
- Must be able to complete mandatory ongoing training(s) and assigned development sessions.
- Travel for training sessions may be required throughout the duration of the development program.
- Bilingual preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Position involves wrist/hand manipulation; frequent viewing of computer monitor; restriction to workstation for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work extended hours as required.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Personal computer with Windows operating system, scanner(s), calculator(s), copy machine, and general office equipment.
