About Roca
Roca is an internationally recognized violence intervention and behavioral health program that works with the young people most likely to shoot or be shot. Founded in 1988 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Roca now serves nearly 2,000 of the highest-risk young people each year across seven sites in Massachusetts, Baltimore (MD), and Hartford (CT).

Roca's work is grounded in Rewire CBT, a breakthrough adaptation of cognitive behavioral therapy designed for young people living with trauma, disconnected from traditional services, and involved in/impacted by violence. Through relentless outreach, long-term relationships, and skill-building, Roca helps youth move from reacting to choosing, from surviving to living.

Meanwhile, the Roca Impact Institute extends this reach nationally. Launched in 2020, the Institute trains community violence intervention staff, criminal justice agencies, and police officers in Rewire CBT, building trauma-informed practices and systems change across the country. To date, the Institute has trained more than 10,000 staff across 75 organizations in 17 states and D.C.

Budget & Revenue Generation at Roca

Roca has an annual operating budget of $30 million including public and private dollars.   Over the years, Roca has successfully completed different types of campaigns from start-up funds for a new site and a new state, milestone anniversary growth campaigns, and capital campaigns.

Roca has a strategy of diverse revenue streams including: public (federal, state, local, performance based, and day rates), private (foundations and corporate foundations), individual giving (ranging from monthly donations to major gifts), corporate (sponsorships for events and major gifts), earned income (transitional employment and the Roca Impact Institute contracts), in-kind (goods and services), and earned interest.

Recognizing that different skills are needed for different types of revenue generation, Roca has a diverse team of people focused on specific revenue opportunities.  Additionally, Roca has Board and staff leadership engaged in fundraising and revenue generation.

Given current and growing challenges with public dollars and increased competition for private dollars, Roca has developed a four year plan on the path to 2030, "Leaning In & Increasing Impact".   This plan outlines our commitment to working directly with 1,600+ very high risk youth in three states and the growing capacity of the Roca Impact Institute to train other front line staff, justice systems and police in Roca's Rewire CBT reaching over 200,000 young people over the next four years.  Roca has four year conservative budget scenario of $132 million for operations and an additional $10 million for Impact Capital, including an analysis of committed funding, the path to potential renewable funding, and the need for additional opportunities for funding.

What is next for individual and corporate giving at Roca

We have been most fortunate and received individual and corporate gifts over the years.  This will be a key area for focused growth for revenue generation over the next years.   Our gifts in this area range from major gifts to small recurring gifts, event sponsorships, growth and capital campaign gifts, and individual donors.   Some of these gifts are site/state specific, campaign specific, or program specific, and some are general operating.

We are looking for a person to join the team with a full-time focus on individual and corporate giving with a priority focus on MA, CT, and national.   We are working with a consultant with national experience over the next months to build out our work and next steps, and at the same time we have a lot of work to do and some key events and projects over the next 2 ½ months.

Position Summary

The Director of Individual Gifts is predominantly a solo-contributor role responsible for developing and executing all aspects of Roca's individual and corporate giving program. This includes strategy, donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.   While there will be no direct supervision to start, there will be key participation in different team efforts and oversight of some specific work led by others, as well as work with salesforce.

This is a hands-on position for a strategic and self-motivated fundraiser who enjoys both planning and direct relationship management. The Director will personally manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Board, and serve as Roca's lead specialist in individual and corporate giving.

  • Personally manage a portfolio of high-capacity individual donors and prospects (five- and six-figure level).
  • Partner with leadership and the Board to support donor strategy and outreach.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and manage the donor pipeline using Roca's CRM.

Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of progressively responsible experience in individual or major gifts fundraising.
  • Demonstrated success in securing and stewarding gifts of $25,000–$500,000+.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable managing the entire donor lifecycle independently.
  • Strong relationship management, communication, and proposal writing skills.
  • Data-driven and detail-oriented, with CRM proficiency (Salesforce).
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive innovation, change, and growth with a consistent track record of creating and executing effective fundraising strategies
  • Valid state issued drivers license.
