Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) are jointly recruiting two full-time MD/DO faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Department of Neurology at the UW and the Medical oncology division of the Fred Hutch. The primary appointment will be in the Department of Neurology at the UW. Academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. This position will engage in neuro-oncology research, including clinical trials, to help grow our clinical and translational neuro-oncology studies. This position may specialize in clinical trials for the treatment of primary glial neoplasms, meningiomas and brain metastases.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position in this title will be $23,920 - $30,609 per month ($287,040 to $367,308 per year), commensurate with experience, discipline, and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position in this title will be $$27,766 - $38,799 per month ($333,192 to $465,588 per year), commensurate with experience, discipline, and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Our salaries are bench marked based on the AAMC scale. Other compensation associated with this position may or may not include Startup, Relocation Incentive/Moving Allowance Administrative supplement for a defined administrative role, or Productivity Incentive.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary and collaborative team of neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, neurosurgeons, APPs, dedicated nursing staff, oncologic dieticians, neuropsychologist and social workers at the Alvord Brain Tumor Center (ABTC) at UW caring for adult patients with primary CNS malignancies and at the Fred Hutch in our growing brain metastases clinic. Because of our responsibility to provide care to the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho), as well as certification as a neurofibromatosis clinic, our program sees an exceptionally complex and diverse group of patients with peripheral and central nervous system tumors.

The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in neuro-oncology. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice providers, nurses, and fellows in the clinical setting, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to clinicians and the general medical community.

Qualifications

Requirements include:

  • MD or DO or foreign equivalent degree
  • eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Washington
  • certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology and Neuro-Oncology (or eligibility to sit for the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialities accrediation)
  • In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
