Position Overview

Trademarkia is hiring a
Juris Doctorate Intern in AI Legal Product Design
, ideal for a JD student with real UX/product design experience and a passion for the future of legal services.

This is a
hybrid internship
:

• Work primarily
  remote
• With
  occasional travel to Mountain View, California
  for collaboration sessions with founders, attorneys, designers, and engineers

In this role, you will
study the competitive landscape of AI-enabled legal service delivery
across a spectrum of practice areas—including trademarks, patent valuation, design patents, corporate filings, immigration, personal injury, and DUI services. Early in your internship, you will
choose one area of focus
and spend the next 6 months building a real product in that vertical.

Your primary responsibility:

Study emerging AI tools, envision new product opportunities, create product definition documents and UX designs, pitch them to leadership, and—once approved—lead engineering execution toward launch.

You will work closely with our 20+ engineering team and be empowered to take a concept from idea → design → build →
live product launch within 6 months
.

Key Responsibilities
Competitive Landscape Research

• Study the delivery of legal services in at least one of the following major practice areas:
• Trademark, patent valuation, design patent, corporate law, immigration, personal injury, DUI, and consumer legal services.
• Evaluate the strengths and gaps in current AI-powered tools like
  Harvey, PacerPro, CoCounsel, LegalOn
  , and others.
• Analyze how legal consumers—not lawyers—navigate these areas today, and identify opportunities for AI-driven consumer empowerment.

Product Vision, Strategy, and Design

• Based on your selected focus area, develop a
  complete product concept
  :
• Target users (consumers, startups, small businesses)
• Problem statements
• Competitive differentiators
• Workflows and legal logic
• Create
  UX flows, Figma wireframes, interactive prototypes
  , and user-centered design documents.
• Produce
  product definition documents (PRDs)
  , value propositions, and feature stories.
• Present product ideas to senior leadership for approval.

Engineering Leadership & Execution

• Once a project is approved, you will:
• Collaborate with and help guide a
  20+ person engineering team
• Translate product requirements into engineering tasks
• Join sprint planning and give feedback on builds
• Validate AI prompts, logic flows, and accuracy
• Ensure a consumer-friendly user experience throughout the build
• Your goal is to
  launch a working, live product by the end of the internship
  .

AI Workflow & Prompt Design

• Analyze how generative AI can simplify legal tasks for the general public.
• Create structured prompts and logic flows built for
  consumer clarity
  , not legal professionals.
• Stress-test AI tools for errors, hallucinations, or usability flaws.

Who You Are
Required

• Current JD student (1L–3L)
  with strong legal reasoning.
• Prior UX or product design experience
  , ideally before law school.
• Portfolio required
  , including Figma, wireframes, or product mockups.
• Conversant in
  modern legal AI tools
  (Harvey, LegalOn, CoCounsel, Casetext AI, PacerPro, Lexis+ AI, Westlaw Edge AI, etc.).
• Strong understanding of consumer-oriented design and usability.
• Comfortable leading cross-functional teams and owning a product vision.
• Highly creative; excited to rethink how regular people access legal help.
• Excellent writing, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred

• Background in IP, corporate, or consumer-facing legal services.
• Experience working directly with engineering or product management teams.
• Understanding of AI ethics, hallucination risks, and prompt testing.
