Assignment Details

Contract Type: Contract

Shift: Nights

Location: Santa Maria, CA 93454

Hours per Week: 36

Pay Rate: $65–$70/hr

Roles and Responsibilities

This blended description incorporates facility needs with Sterling Therapy Solutions' gold-standard expectations:

  • Provide compassionate, expert care for Level III NICU patients, including 23+ weekers, cooling cases, and feeders/growers
  • Manage patient ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
  • Care for pediatric med-surg patients if floated (1:1 to 1:4)
  • Safely operate high-frequency oscillators, Draeger vents, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, RTs (24/7), and pharmacy staff (24/7)
  • Document thoroughly in Cerner EMR
  • Serve as a resourceful and calm presence in a unit without aides and without an IV team
  • Float confidently to Nursery, Peds, or Mother/Baby (only if experienced)
  • Participate in unit-specific orientation (NICU: 2–3 shifts; Peds: 2 shifts)
  • Participate in call during low census when required
  • Follow self-scheduling guidelines and maintain flexibility with weekend & holiday expectations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Level III NICU experience
  • Night-shift competency
  • Previous travel experience not required

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • NRP
  • PALS (preferred)
  • STABLE (preferred)

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current active RN license (state compliant)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong proficiency with advanced neonatal ventilators, including high-frequency oscillators
  • Ability to care for high-acuity neonates, including cooling patients
  • Excellent communication in fast-paced, high-stress environments
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Comfortable working independently without aides
  • Ability to adapt quickly when floating to Peds, Nursery, or Mother/Baby (if applicable)
