Position Overview:

The IT SAP Developer will deliver ABAP, SQL code, and configuration changes to the SAP platform, supporting the company's digital transformation to SAP. This role involves technical design, coding, configuration, and unit testing, as well as supporting deployments and test cycles as needed. The individual will collaborate closely with project managers, IT business analysts, and other developers. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, highly integrated technical environment and be familiar with testing lifecycle and issue management processes. Strong time management, communication skills, and proactive status updates on work, risks, and issues are essential.

This is an in-office role located at our downtown Houston, TX corporate headquarters.

Responsibilities:

• Translate business requirements into technical deliverables and estimate work efforts.

• Mentor and technically guide the team on SAP ecosystem and solutions.

• Apply programming best practices to develop quality designs and code.

• Support SAP customizations by identifying bugs and improving performance and reliability.

• Plan and execute tests in complex functional domains, using effective testing regimes with cases, data, and expected results.

• Follow testing lifecycle and issue management protocols with a detail-oriented, problem-solving mentality.

• Provide technical expertise and functional context to process design and architecture.

• Review available solutions, presenting options and recommendations to IT team members.

• Offer tactical (immediate) and strategic (long-term) guidance in resolving complex end-to-end issues and drive improvements for technology excellence.

• Represent SAP custom code interests in Enterprise Architecture discussions.

• Professionally represent Motiva and Motiva IT in all interactions with external parties.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering.

• 5+ years functional work experience with the following SAP modules:

  • SAP IS-Oil (Industry Solution - Oil & Gas)

  • SAP TSW (Trader's and Scheduler's Workbench)

  • SAP Commodity Management (CM)

  • SAP S/4HANA TM (Transportation Management)

  • SAP S/4HANA SD/MM (Sales & Distribution / Materials Management)

  • SAP S/4HANA Finance (FI/CO)

  • SAP EHS (Environment, Health & Safety)

  • SAP GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance)

  • SAP BW/4HANA

• Excellent SQL and ABAP coding skills with technical working knowledge in the following modules:

  • SAP BTP – BAS (Business Application Studio)

  • SAP BTP – Integration Suite

  • SAP Cloud ALM

  • SAP Signavio

  • SAP Solution Manager (SolMan) (if hybrid landscape)

  • Core S/4HANA BASIS Activities

  • ABAP Development - Core S4

  • SAP Fiori/UI5 - Eclipse IDE

  • SAP CDS Views / OData

  • Data Services / ETL Tools (e.g., SAP-Sphere, Syniti)

  • Security/GRC Compliance Knowledge

  • DevSecOps Tools for SAP

• Design, configure, and implement SAP solutions within SAP S4/HANA.

• Demonstrated ability to manage scope and work, escalating risks/issues as they arise and delivering within agreed time constraints.

• Critical thinking skills to decompose problems into logical analysis steps leading to root cause identification and quality solutions.

• Experience writing technical documentation such as software installation procedures and design specifications.

• Participate in Agile sprint planning, daily Scrum, and sprint retrospective activities.

• Action-oriented, high energy, and results-oriented.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• SAP S/4HANA experience.

• Experience in the oil and gas industry.

• Familiarity with SAP modules, particularly in the Crude and Refined Products sectors, is preferred.
