Senior Reliability Engineer

Location: Lafayette, Indiana

Duration: 12 Months of Contract with possibility of extension

Schedule: Mon-Fri

Pay: $45 - $55 Hourly on W2

Role:

  • Lead reliability improvements for CNC machining centers to enhance equipment availability, OEE, and process capability.
  • Utilize structured reliability methods (TPM – Total Productive Maintenance, RCCA – Root cause and corrective action, PFMEA, predictive maintenance) to eliminate chronic losses and stabilize throughput.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to embed a reliability-focused culture and standard work.

Position's Contributions to Work Group
:

  • Black Belt certification with a focus on machining centers maintenance, reliability data analytics (Llumin data) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
  • Experience in manufacturing operations, RCCA on maintenance repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with safety and reliability standards.
  • Improve machine availability & OEE through loss analysis & corrective actions.
  • Analyze maintenance data to identify trends, diagnose issues, and develop actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage critical spares and obsolescence strategy.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement permanent fixes.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Deploy TPM and operator care on constraint machining centers.
  • Influence reliability in new equipment design and commissioning.
  • Implement predictive maintenance (vibration, lubrication, thermal monitoring) initiative.
  • Coach operators and technicians on defect tagging and basic care.

Education & Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial)

Minimum 10 years of experience

Technical Skills:

(Required)

  • Black Belt certified
  • CNC machining Centers & misc. assets maintenance
  • Statistical & reliability data analytics, & root cause analysis
  • Llumin CMMS+
  • Microsoft O365 / Power BI

(Desired)

  • Project Management, New Capital Introduction (NCI)
  • Hands-on CNC experience, including machine setup
  • Operation / Programming / Coaching

Soft Skills:

  • Clear and fluent English with both oral and written communications
  • Growth mindset, aggressive and outgoing to learn processes at Caterpillar
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Work with a sense of urgency but must be balanced with priorities given to Safety & Ergonomics as well as Quality.
