Position Summary: The Lead Accountant is responsible for executing the organization's accounting operations, including maintenance of accounting books and records, completion of monthly close, production of periodic financial reports, and implementation of controls and procedures that enhance the accuracy of accounting data and financial reporting. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards while supporting financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Books & Records
- Ensure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of the accounting and financial data.
- Execute daily, weekly, and monthly accounting functions and postings including general ledger management, journal entries, allocations, analyses, and reconciliations.
- Help ensure all financial activities and transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger, overseeing and executing analyses and reconciliations of balance sheet and revenue & expense accounts.
Accounting Operations
- Make sure daily, weekly, and monthly, entries are appropriately classified and done timely, completing and overseeing detailed reviews of journal entries and reconciliations prior to posting.
- Ensure journals, interfaces, accrual entries and reports, and reclasses are performed and posted accurately and on a timely basis.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between postings and general ledger, preparing reconciliation workpapers where applicable.
Monthly Close & Analysis
- Support completion of monthly financial close, including preparing and analyzing monthly schedules and reports.
- Ensure timely closing of the books and submission of internal/external reports.
- Analyze accounts and financial data to identify trends and variances for review with department leadership.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets; ensure the integrity and consistency of accounting data and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP or other applicable standards.
- Faithfully discharge and ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial policies, and reporting requirements.
- Help coordinative and support completion of audits and cost reports, providing necessary documentation and explanation.
Operational & Strategic Support
- Collaborate with department leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial operations.
- Provide accounting and financial insight for business, financial, and operational decisions.
- Implement accounting processes and procedures in compliance with GAAP and FASB and implement updates and improvements as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred).
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), financial regulations, and internal controls.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Workday, NetSuite, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Traits:
- CPA or CMA certification.
- Experience in healthcare.
