Position Title: Building Engineer
Reports to: Board of Trustees
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends)
Compensation: $20–$25 per hour
Position Overview
The Facilities Manager/Building Engineer ensures that Walker Memorial Baptist Church's buildings and grounds are safe, functional, well-maintained, and welcoming. This hands-on role includes oversight of maintenance, cleanliness, event support, safety and security, supply management, and serving as the primary point of access for visitors and vendors during business hours. The Facilities Manager/Building Engineer will work closely with the Board of Trustees, Church Administrator and other staff to support the church's mission and daily operations.
Core Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs: Perform and oversee routine and emergency maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping).
Facilities Cleanliness: Ensure the church facilities remain clean and orderly, coordinating with contracted custodial staff where applicable, and directly maintaining designated areas.
Event Coordination: Collaborate with the Church Administrator to ensure the facilities portion of events (set-up, tear-down, building access, utilities) are executed with excellence.
Safety & Security: Implement and monitor safety and security protocols; conduct regular facility inspections to ensure compliance and readiness.
Access & Visitor Support: Provide building access during business hours, greet and direct visitors, and ensure vendors/contractors are appropriately received and supported.
Vendor Management & Budgeting: Secure and oversee contractors (repairs, specialized services, janitorial support); track related expenses; and support budget planning.
Supplies & Equipment: Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring availability for daily operations.
Emergency Response: Serves as the primary point of contact for facility-related emergencies and coordinate swift resolution.
Record-Keeping: Maintain logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and preventative care schedules.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission and ministry of Walker Memorial.
Qualifications & Traits
High school diploma or equivalent (trade/technical education preferred).
Previous experience in facilities management, custodial operations, or a related field.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Demonstrates integrity, reliability, and commitment to ministry.
The Facilities Manager/Building Engineer is expected to become a member of Walker Memorial Baptist Church and be actively engaged in the life and ministry of the congregation.
