The Primary Therapist will provide counsel and support to clients suffering from drug or alcohol dependency, educate families in the best ways to help in the recovery process, and work with both detox and residential clients. This role involves conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating therapy, and offering crisis intervention. The Primary Therapist will play a vital role in supporting clients on their path to recovery while working collaboratively across departments and with family and referents.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive clinical services for assigned clients, including assessment, individualized treatment planning, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, family engagement, discharge coordination, and timely documentation.
- Meets with clients to conduct a biopsychosocial assessment to get a clear picture of the client's status and extent of problems.
- Designs a treatment plan tailored to client's individual situation based on knowledge of alcohol and drug dependency and counseling and treatment methods.
- Uses a combination of individual and group counseling sessions to help clients and observe their attitudes and readiness to accept help and guidance.
- Maintain regular contact with families to provide clinical updates.
- Conduct family sessions.
- Educates clients about community-based organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous and social and employment services that may help restore them to productive roles in the community.
- Maintains case histories and progress reports.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to evaluate treatment progress and coordinate care.
- Collaborate across departments to support seamless care transitions and a holistic treatment experience.
- Modifies treatment programs based on observation.
- Assists clients with coping with family problems and recommends appropriate social services as support for the entire family unit.
- Develops discharge plan through collaborating with clients and their families when applicable to achieve the most successful reintegration back into their community.
- Ensure all documentation complies with Joint Commission standards, state requirements, and internal protocols.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Licenses:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related licensable clinical field from an accredited institution.
- Valid license or registered intern status in Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, or Psychology in the State of California; in good standing
- Active licensure or registration in California as an AMFT, ACSW, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or Psychologist.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- At least two years of experience in clinical settings such as hospitals, clinics, or community-based agencies, preferably with dual diagnosis clients and chronic disorders.
- Proven experience in crisis intervention, individual therapy, and group psychotherapy.
- Strong knowledge of mental health, addiction, and intervention strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present in groups, document clearly, and respond effectively in varied clinical settings.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic health records.
- Must pass a health screening and present a negative TB test result.
Physical Requirements:
- This role involves walking, bending, kneeling, and occasional lifting of 30+ pounds.
- Must be physically capable of assisting clients during emergencies or mobility-related situations.
- Work environment includes exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, cleaning chemicals, and unpredictable client behaviors.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $72, $80,000.00 per year
