Job Summary

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Dental Sterilization Technician to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will ensure the highest standards of infection control and sterilization procedures are maintained across the clinic. Your expertise will support a smooth workflow by preparing, sterilizing, and managing dental instruments and equipment, enabling our dental professionals to deliver exceptional patient care. Duties

  • Properly clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments using autoclaves and other sterilization equipment in strict accordance with infection control protocols.
  • Prepare dental tools and equipment for various procedures, ensuring all items are correctly assembled and ready for use.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument inventory, and medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist with the organization and storage of sterile supplies to ensure easy access during procedures.
  • Support clinical staff by managing the flow of sterile instruments during patient treatments, practicing four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Conduct routine inspections of sterilization equipment to verify proper functioning and troubleshoot issues promptly.
  • Adhere to all OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards, aseptic techniques, and infection control guidelines to safeguard patient and staff health.
  • Collaborate with dental assistants, hygienists, and reception staff to streamline clinic operations while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Assist with inventory management by tracking supplies using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Open Dental.
  • Support the preparation of medical records, ensuring accurate documentation of procedures, X-ray images, and medical history updates.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Dental Sterilization Technician or in a similar dental assisting role within a general or pediatric dentistry setting.
  • Strong knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures using autoclaves or other sterilizers.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Open Dental, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
  • Understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
  • Ability to operate X-ray machines safely while adhering to HIPAA regulations concerning patient privacy.
  • Experience with chairside assisting including four-handed dentistry techniques is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of dental imaging technology including 3D scanners is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for record-keeping and inventory management.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists and clinicians.
