Junior Buyer

The Javits Center is considered the busiest convention center in the United States, hosting the

world's leading conventions, trade shows, and special events on Manhattan's West Side. These

large-scale events have generated billions of dollars in annual economic activity for New York

City and New York State, supporting thousands of jobs in and around the facility. Located on

11th Avenue between West 34th Street and West 40th Street, the iconic structure has played a

prominent role in New York's recovery and resurgence, and with a state-of-the-art expansion

project recently completed, the venue features more than 850,000 square feet of total

exhibition space, two new floors of meeting room space, a rooftop pavilion and terrace, as well

as a range of catering, sustainability, and technology services.

Position Summary:

The Junior Buyer researches, analyzes, and secures products and services for the Javits Center,

ensuring compliance with procurement guidelines and alignment with company objectives. This

position will be responsible for data management with regards to purchases, contracts, and work

to develop purchasing standard methodologies, as well as sourcing vendors, performing cost-benefit analyses, and negotiating advantageous pricing for RFPs, RFIs, and IFBs. The role is

accountable for measurable results in cost-effectiveness, efficiency, productivity, and quality

work.

The hiring range for this position is $ $28.00 per hour. The rate of pay offered will be

dependent upon the candidate's relevant skills and experience.

Interested candidates must be willing to work full-time on-site at the Javits Center.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare and distribute procurement reports including cost analysis, compliance reports, departmental score cards and ad hoc requests.
• Improve PO compliance metrics, monitor open orders and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather required procurement information, follow up on PO actions, and advise on efficient purchasing methods, product availability and economic factors.
• Ensure compliance with Javits Center purchasing guidelines and procurement procedures.
• Evaluate orders, bid documentation and proposals to ensure compliant, cost-effective purchasing, support vendor selection and contract management.
• Partner with Finance to ensure accurate month-end expense capture.
• Manage vendor and stakeholder relationships, including performance monitoring, contract renewals and negotiation of goods/services specifications, pricing, and terms.
• Develop and maintain KPIs, documentation and a knowledge base for purchase order management and reporting.
• Participate in testing, training and development of procurement documentation (procurement procedures, test scenarios, work instructions, procurement policies).
• Implement process improvements with the procurement team, including standardization of forms and documentation.
• Maintain purchasing records and files to ensure documentation availability and compliance for audits.
• Prepare documentation including price analysis, vendor selection, lease analyses, market surveys, and technical evaluations.
• Conduct research on supplies, vendors, laws and regulations to support purchases, contracts, and services.

Qualifications:

• B.A/B.S. degree in Accounting preferred; other business-related fields could be considered.
• A minimum of 2 years' experience in procurement administration is required.
• Experience preparing RFQs/RFPs/RFI preferred.
• Strong data analysis skills, including vendor performance evaluation, benchmarking, and reporting.
• Proficient in MS Office and Oracle NetSuite preferred.
• Capable of performing reporting functions and critical analysis of results driven business goals and efficiencies.
• Knowledge of New York State procurement is a plus.
• High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
