Position: Part time janitorial tech
Shift: 1st Shift (4 hour shifts every day)- 20 hours each week
Compensation: Up to $19/ hour DOE

Overview of role:

The Janitorial Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and safety within the facility. This role involves performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure that all areas are hygienic, organized, and presentable. The Janitorial Technician works to keep high-traffic areas clean, disinfected, and free from hazards while adhering to health and safety standards. This position requires attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledge of sanitation protocols, proper chemical usage, and safety standards to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work independently and with a team, following instructions and providing updates as necessary.

Key Deliverables

  • Clean and sanitize assigned areas, including restrooms, offices, hallways, break rooms, and other shared spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors, scrubbing and polishing when necessary.
  • Dust and clean furniture, equipment, windows, walls, and other surfaces.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in restrooms and common areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins, dispose of waste, and replace liners.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and elevator buttons.
  • Report any damage, maintenance issues, or safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment, ensuring tools and machines function and store correctly.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation protocols, including properly handling and storing cleaning chemicals.
  • Ensure cleaning supplies are ordered and stocked as needed, notifying supervisors when inventory levels are low.
  • Participate in deep cleaning projects, such as carpet cleaning or window washing, when required.
  • Monitor and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the premises, addressing any issues promptly.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (no formal education required, but an asset).
  • Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lift and move cleaning equipment and supplies (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to operate cleaning machinery such as floor buffers, vacuums, and power washers.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, materials, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Good physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks and stand for long periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to notice areas that need attention.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a similar janitorial role or facility maintenance.
  • Certification in cleaning or sanitation practices (e.g., OSHA or safety training certifications).
  • Basic knowledge of green cleaning practices or environmentally friendly cleaning solutions.
  • Familiarity with cleaning equipment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Technology Requirements:

  • Familiarity with computerized work order systems for reporting maintenance issues or cleaning requests (optional, depending on employer).
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment effectively and safely, including floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and other mechanical cleaning devices.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members and supervisors effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow workplace procedures regarding cleaning schedules and tasks.
  • Adherence to health and safety guidelines and protocols, mainly when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Reliable transportation to commute to work location, if required.
