Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant assists the Physical Therapist in the provision of physical therapy. The incumbent shall perform physical therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant may modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status within the scope of the Physical Therapist's established treatment plan. The incumbent documents patient progress notes. The incumbent shall safety and effectively provide physical therapy procedures as directed by their supervising Physical Therapist. The incumbent shall address appropriately the age specific needs for all patients. The incumbent will treat patients and families with respect and dignity. Patients pain will be assessed and treated according to the departments pain management policy. It is the philosophy of Mercy Hospital to optimize patients' comfort while they are in the hospital. The incumbent will identify and report any patient safety issue when identified. The Physical Therapist Assistant shall provide technical assistance and direction to the Physical Therapy aide and coordinates the workload in the department as directed.

Hours / Shift : Full-Time (40 hours) / Weekday and Weekend Shifts
Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Oklahoma City South, is a 36-bed rehabilitation hospital located in the southern part of Oklahoma City at 7900 Mid America Blvd. Our rehabilitation hospital provides care for patients 18 and over recovering from strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries, and other conditions. Patients receive 3 hours of Therapy every 5 out of 7 days they are at our facility.
We aim to provide the most optimal setting for rehabilitation and recovery. To achieve this goal, we offer the following amenities:
• 41,000 square feet of a modern, naturally sunlit environment to drastically enhance our patients, families, and staff experience.
• 36 private rooms
• Large modern equipped Therapy Gyms including a EKSO Skeleton NR
• A complete pharmacy and in-house dialysis capabilities
• A retrofitted "Smart Car" (real car) for mobility therapy
• A large therapy courtyard with multiple therapy options in a park like setting
• A furnished Assisted Daily Living apartment with a fully functioning kitchen and bath
• A large dining hall with buffet line and outdoor patio for patients, physicians, co-workers, and family to enjoy.
• A multitude of family gathering and meeting areas
Under the general supervision of department management and the direct supervision of Physical Therapists, will provide treatment to include therapeutic modalities and therapeutic interventions. Will also assist in: medical records, upkeep of department environment, safety and equipment, and provides any support needed for improved department functioning. Promotes advisory service to other interdisciplinary team member to promote quality patient care. Functions under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
- Education : Associate's degree from accredited program. (Exception: grandfathered license from state of practice.)
- Licensure : State of practice Physical Therapist Assistant license.
- Certifications : Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within their probation period.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Abilitie s: Must have general knowledge of treatment principles for a diverse number and types of diagnoses.
- Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements : Patient care may include heavy lifting and extensive bending and standing.
- Equipment Used : May occasionally work with office equipment, i.e., copy machines, telephones, computer. Must demonstrate competency in equipment used for the delivery of modalities. Physical demands are attached plus push at 40 lbs., pull 60 lbs., and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally.
