MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's (or higher) degree or a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) - or -
  • two years of study at an institution of higher education - or -
  • achieve a passing score on the Basic Skills Test of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) - or -
  • pass Workkeys test
  • Experience in working with children
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficient reading and writing abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and take direction.
  • Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Pleasant, cooperative and flexible.
  • Willing and able to toilet students and provide other custodial care needs.
  • A positive attitude to foster the proper atmosphere for a supportive classroom environment.
  • Willing to learn and perform health care needs, after training.
  • An understanding of Assistive Technology and the ability to support students with disabilities in the classroom.
BASIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with classroom teachers to support and reinforce the teacher's instructional plan to help students succeed in the regular program, attain grade level proficiency and improve achievement in all Core Curriculum areas
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementation
  • Follows through with prescribed behavioral management programs
  • Keeps private materials confidential
  • Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
  • Assists individual students with self-care and daily living skills, as well as physical mobility, dispensing of medication, toileting, etc., as needed
  • Maintains composure under stressful conditions
  • Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
  • Participates in professional development activities within and outside of the District
  • Performs such other duties and/or functions as assigned or deemed necessary by the natures of the work assignment and/or needs of the District
  • Other duties as assigned
REPORTS TO: Program Supervisor
WORKDAY/WEEK: Monday-Friday, 7.5 hrs/day (7 hours paid, .5 hours unpaid lunch)
STARTING DATE: ASAP
COMPENSATION: $15.50 per hour based on experience, contracted through EduStaff
