Job SummaryThis position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the primary work location will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location. Join our team at the Department of Labor and Industry, where you'll play a key role in supporting the Construction Codes & Licensing Division (CCLD). This front-facing position is based at the CCLD Help Desk and is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to walk-in visitors, as well as responding to inquiries via phone and email.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct assistance to customers regarding licensing, exams, renewals, and applications
- Review and analyze license and exam applications to determine eligibility and compliance.
- Conduct research to support application decisions and respond to complex inquiries.
- Provide general guidance on basic permitting, plan review, licensing and enforcement questions.
- Sort and distribute incoming mail for CCLD units, identifying and prioritizing time-sensitive communications.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of mail and information to the appropriate teams.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to a variety of customers in person, on the phone, and through e-mail and other written correspondence.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers and to read, explain and interpret a variety of materials to exam candidates.
- Math skills sufficient to perform basic calculations and assure proper fees are paid.
- Data entry skills sufficient to read source documents and enter data in database and to compile, sort and verify data accuracy before entering it.
- Database management skills sufficient to enter and retrieve data and run daily reports to verify data for completeness, accuracy and discrepancies.
- Skill working with Microsoft Office applications such as Teams, Outlook, Word, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
- Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
