The program is founded on the four components of service, community, simplicity, and spirituality. A partial list of responsibilities includes teaching two classes, assisting with co-curricular activities and events, and participating in retreats and service days
General Requirements:
- Program Dates: August 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027
- Teaching Contract: Participants sign an employment agreement and are required to follow all expectations outlined in the faculty handbook. They attend all faculty meetings, required conferences, and the overnight faculty retreat.
- Workload: In addition to the two classes that each participant teaches, ASC members will be involved in one major co-curricular, and one student life domain. He will share a homeroom with another teacher and be assigned a student supervision duty.
- Professional Support: Each ASC member will be assigned a faculty mentor from the department in which he is teaching. The mentor will assist him with getting acclimated to Jesuit and to teaching. The department chairman and other department members will also guide and support him. Participants will also take part in the first-year teachers program-attending orientation, the retreat, and all meetings.
- Spirituality: Participants have daily prayer commitments, meet for weekly spiritual formation meetings, choose a spiritual director, and assist with two Kairos retreats and other campus ministry events.
- Community: ASC members have regular community events with fellow members, including dinner one night a week with the Jesuits in residence at the school
- Simplicity: Volunteers receive a monthly stipend for living and personal expenses and are provided housing and basic utilities in a school-owned house adjacent to campus.
