Founded in 1953 to meet the needs of children with cerebral palsy and their families, Pillar Care has steadily grown and now delivers life-affirming services to infants, children, adults and their families throughout northern New Jersey through 27 program locations. Pillar Care provides specialized programs to meet a wide range of educational, therapeutic, and social needs of people with various disabilities. The agency serves over 1,650 families each year and employs 700 full- and part-time employees.

About The Opportunity
Pillar Elementary School, located in Livingston, NJ, is an approved private school for students with disabilities serving preschool through middle school. Pillar Elementary School is seeking an Occupational Therapist to work in a supportive environment with a focus on teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and monitors high-quality therapy programs for individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Designs, fabricates, adjusts, or makes minor repairs to therapeutic equipment for individual students; suggests and monitors the provision of appropriate assistive technology.
  • Develops educationally relevant IEP goals and objectives; completes daily notes
  • Works collaboratively with professional staff using a team-based approach.
  • Provides supervision, guidance, and assistance to classroom aides and one-to-one nurses.
  • Collaborates closely with families to support the students.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and independence in the use of varied therapy treatment approaches, knowledge of child development
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain proper working relationships with students, parents, co-workers and supervisors
  • Perform physical activity
  • Maintain a safe working environment, adhere to ethical standards of the profession, travel to various locations, adhere to personnel policies, procedures and standard health precautions

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree and graduation from an AOTA (American O.T. Association) accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Successful completion of NBCOT (National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy) Certification Examination.
  • Registration by AOTA as Occupational Therapist
  • State of New Jersey of license
  • NJ Department of Education Certification as an Occupational Therapist (Required)
