Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer
Job Summary
Kraft Werks Thermal Solutions is seeking a Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer to lead the development of innovative, cost-effective mechanical systems across a range of thermal and industrial applications. This role blends deep technical expertise with creative problem-solving, client engagement, and strategic design leadership.
You'll collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing to transform customer challenges into refined mechanical and thermal solutions. From concept to proposal to fabrication-ready design, you'll own the process—balancing performance, manufacturability, and cost. While much of the work is performed at the engineering workstation using 3D design tools and business software, site visits and direct client interaction are essential to understanding real-world constraints and delivering value.
This position offers the opportunity to shape future design standards, mentor junior team members as the department grows, and contribute to Kraft Werks' reputation for precision, reliability, and legacy craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design efforts for furnace systems and broader industrial equipment (e.g., pour systems, hot metal product handling, conveyors, cooling assemblies, heat treatment and metal casting)
- Develop 3D models, fabrication drawings, and BOMs using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks
- Generate proposal documents and technical presentations independently or in collaboration with Sales and Engineering
- Conduct site visits to customer facilities and KWI locations to gather requirements and validate design assumptions
- Integrate ASME standards and fabrication best practices into all design work
- Evaluate legacy and emerging technologies to optimize system performance and cost
- Maintain clear documentation and design notes to support internal reviews and client communication
- Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to refine construction plans and resolve design challenges
- Uphold safety and compliance standards during field work, including PPE and procedural training (e.g., LOTO, confined space entry)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in thermal systems or industrial equipment
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD; familiarity with SolidWorks preferred
- Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, strength of materials, and fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings, process diagrams, and supplier documentation
- Skilled in dimensional analysis, unit conversions, and geometric reasoning; able to use micrometers, dial indicators, and tape measures
- Familiarity with ASME standards; PE licensure is a plus
- Excellent communication skills—able to interface with clients, present solutions, and collaborate across disciplines
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering practical, cost-effective solutions
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
