Our client, a consumer goods company, is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Quality Engineer for a
4-month contract role
providing coverage for an employee on leave. In this position, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Industrial Design, Marketing, and Consumer Care, to define, implement, and uphold the quality standards that ensure our products deliver exceptional performance, reliability, and consumer satisfaction.

As the voice of the consumer, you will take the lead in identifying and analyzing consumer complaints and product return issues, translating those insights into actionable engineering improvements and consumer-facing solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Quality Engineer to make an impact in a fast-paced product development environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide quality standards, testing protocols, and inspection systems.
  • Ensure all products meet internal performance requirements as well as relevant regulatory and industry standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Industrial Design, and Marketing teams to support product development from concept through production.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Consumer Care and Engineering to identify, categorize, and analyze consumer complaints and product return trends.
  • Translate consumer insights into actionable engineering solutions, design improvements, and consumer-facing guidance.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement quality checkpoints throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure quality compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare clear documentation, reports, and presentations to support quality initiatives and product updates.
  • Support continuous improvement activities to enhance product reliability, reduce defects, and optimize testing efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in quality engineering, ideally within consumer goods
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, testing protocols, and industry standards (ISO, ASTM, UL, etc.).
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA, CAPA).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience working with suppliers or contract manufacturers is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for consumer advocacy and continuous improvement.

Contract Details:

  • 4-month contract covering for an employee on leave
  • Full-time hours during contract duration
  • Onsite in Newton, MA Monday-Thursday, Fridays remote.
