**Job Title: Sr Java Developer/ SDET 

Type: 6+ month Contract

Compensation: $79.50

Contractor Work Model: Mainly Remote, Hybrid days- Reston, VA
Senior Java Developer / SDET**

ALTA IT is seeking a hands-on Senior Java Developer / SDET to join a cross-functional, enterprise team. This is a hybrid role that combines Java application development with test automation. The ideal candidate is comfortable jumping in where needed, supporting multiple projects, writing production code, and owning quality across the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications
  • Support Java 21 migration and ongoing platform enhancements
  • Build and maintain automated integration and UI tests using Karate, Selenium, and Cucumber
  • Contribute to both back-end and front-end development (Angular or React as needed)
  • Work closely with Architects, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and stakeholders
  • Decompose functional and technical requirements and identify risks
  • Follow test-first practices (TDD/BDD) and ensure high code quality
  • Participate in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on software development experience
  • Strong Java development experience with Spring (Spring Core, Boot, MVC, Integration, Batch)
  • Hands-on experience with Angular or React
  • Strong automation experience with Karate, Selenium, and Cucumber
  • Experience working on Agile/Scrum teams
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and practices
  • Working knowledge of SQL and cloud-based databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams

Nice to Have

  • Full-stack development experience
  • Experience with large-scale or enterprise applications
  • Mentoring or technical leadership experience

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
