In addition to our winter season and award-winning Learning & Engagement Programs, La Jolla Music Society also produces SummerFest, a renowned four-week chamber music festival featuring world-class artists and ensembles performing an array of concerts and programs curated by SummerFest Music Director, Inon Barnatan.SUMMARYThe Technical Co. provides hands-on support for all technical aspects of live events and performances at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. Working under the guidance of the Associate Technical Director (ATD), the Technical Co. ensures that equipment is set up correctly, crews are directed efficiently, and productions run smoothly. This role is essential on show days, providing technical leadership, troubleshooting, and on-the-ground support to help the team execute each event successfully.JOB DESCRIPTIONDIRECT REPORTS/TEAM:Full team includes Director of Production & Operations, Assistant Production Manager, Technical Director (TD), Production Coordinator/Stage Manager, Associate Technical Director, IATSE crew, and other seasonal positions.EVENT COORDINATION & EXECUTION (60%)Assist with the setup and breakdown of technical elements including lighting, sound, and video during loadins and performances.Operate the technical elements as directed by the TD or ATD, including lighting, sound, and video during loadins and all assigned performances.As directed by the TD or ATD, lead technical crews during setup and execution of performances, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.In conjunction with the ATD, assist in guiding the technical crew to ensure all members understand their roles, responsibilities, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.Work closely with the ATD and TD to support the execution of technical schedules and advance preparations.Monitor production elements and flag any issues or discrepancies to the ATD or TD for resolution.During performances, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize disruption, reporting issues immediately to Tech and Production.Participate in the scheduled building opening and closing rotation to ensure the facility is properly secured at the end of events and operations.EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE & MANAGEMENT (30%)Prepare and maintain technical equipment before, during, and after shows, including checking for repairs and proper storage, reporting any issues to the ATD.Ensure audio systems, lighting setups, and video equipment are installed, tested, and functioning correctly prior to artist arrival, soundcheck, and showtimes.DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING (10%)Assist with postshow breakdown and storage of equipment, ensuring proper organization and maintenance.Provide technical feedback and postshow reports to the ATD and TD, including notes on equipment performance, crew needs, and any challenges encountered.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS1 2 years of experience working with theatrical technical equipment.Keen attention to detail.Strong communication skills.Advanced competency in ETC EOS; networked lighting systems; DMX, and RDM; sACN management; ETC Paradigm; ETC Mosaic; rep plot design and maintenance; and professional lighting fixture techniques, use, and maintenance.Ability to learn technical systems outside of lighting, specifically: audio; videography; IMAG; broadcast; rigging; and network management.Ability to comfortably lift 50+ lbs., work in cramped/awkward spaces, work at heights >30 feet, and work in loud environments.Ability to work nights and weekends.EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER STATEMENTBy exemplifying broad representation throughout the institution, it is our goal to dissipate traditional lines of separation, enabling audiences, artists, staff, donors, and students to connect with those who are different from themselves.
