JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a PRN Medical Lab Technician II to coordinate and participate in a variety of complex technical tasks in the performance of blood processing for use in patient treatment at Duke Innovative Pain Therapies of Brier Creek (Duke Autologous Conditioned Serum Lab).
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform processing of blood products in clinical laboratory for use in the treatment of disease using standard techniques and equipment; perform related duties in laboratory to include storing and labeling specimens and using manual and automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytical or quality control tests.
- Understand and comply with laboratory Quality Control and Quality Assurance policies and procedures for instrumentation and testing.
- Maintain detailed records of tests performed and report laboratory process results to appropriate personnel; recognize Quality Control shifts and trends and take appropriate action whenever necessary.
- Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on test equipment, clean and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware and instruments, maintain stock of laboratory supplies.
- Utilize various hospital and laboratory information systems and software; maintain patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
- Interact in a professional and courteous manner with doctors, nurses, and other personnel and serves as technical resource by participating in staff training; answering questions of other professionals; participation in educational opportunities; to provide technical guidance and address concerns.
- Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens, keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

AA or AS Degree.

Minimal educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) director if minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed.

4 years of experience processing blood products in a clinical lab setting using a biological safety cabinet.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized board/agency (required, within 18 months).
- BLS Certification.
- Experience required in the use of a Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC). Experience performing cell culture with the BSC preferred.
- Experience required in aseptic technique / product protection
- Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Tissue Practice (GTP)
- Experience involving customer service in a medical setting, strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
- Working knowledge of laboratory and hospital computer systems is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions, hazardous chemical handling, handling of blood products
- Ability to demonstrate dexterity, knowledge, and ability to complete assigned tasks and skills, attention to detail and compliance with all appropriate regulatory and safety requirements.
JOB HOURS
The schedule for this position will be weekdays, 4 hours per month (possibility for increase in hours dependent on patient voume).
