POSITION SUMMARY:
The Janitor is responsible for ensuring that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. This role involves performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks throughout building interiors and exteriors as assigned. By upholding cleanliness and hygiene standards, the Janitor helps create a welcoming environment for employees, visitors, and clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Clean, sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub and/or polish floors and carpets in offices, hallways, stairwells, restrooms and other building areas.
· Empty trash/recycling receptacles and dispose of waste properly; replace liners and maintain containers.
· Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, kitchens and other common areas: toilets, sinks, urinals, mirrors, countertops, and doors/frames. Restock consumables (soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
· Dust furniture, fixtures, walls, baseboards, windowsills and other horizontal and vertical surfaces. Clean glass, windows, door interiors/exteriors, and blinds/venetian slats.
· Operate cleaning equipment (vacuum machines, floor buffers, polishers, carpet shampooers) and maintain janitorial supplies and storage areas.
· Perform basic maintenance or coordinate reporting of maintenance issues: change light bulbs, report broken fixtures/doors/windows, identify safety hazards, perform minor repairs when applicable.
· Maintain outdoor areas as needed: sweep sidewalks/entryways, pick up litter, clean exterior windows/doors, and assist in snow removal or grounds maintenance when applicable.
· Adhere to health & safety procedures, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), follow chemical handling guidelines, and respond promptly to spills or emergency clean-up situations.
· Collaborate with other facilities/maintenance staff, follow established cleaning schedules, and complete work orders or checklists as assigned.
· Other duties as assigned by management to support the safe, clean operation of the facility.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Mobility: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, reach, climb, and lift or move cleaning equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds while maintaining sufficient manual dexterity and mobility to navigate all areas of the facility safely.
Hearing/Talking: Frequent verbal communication and radio use.
Visual: Sufficient visual acuity to read labels and safety information, identify cleanliness standards and safety hazards, and safely operate and inspect cleaning tools and equipment.
Emotional/Psychological: Ability to work independently, manage time and repetitive tasks effectively, remain calm and professional in busy or high-traffic environments, and maintain positive, cooperative interactions with others while adapting to schedule or task changes as needed.
What You Bring:
- High school diploma or GED preferred; or equivalent training/experience.
- 1 year prior janitorial, custodial or facilities maintenance experience
- Valid California Driver's License
- Strong attention to detail, reliable, and capable of performing tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, read labels/chemical instructions and maintain cleanliness/safety standards.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks: standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25-50 lbs (or as required by facility), reaching, climbing, and handling equipment.
- Basic familiarity with cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment; ability to use and maintain janitorial machines.
- Good interpersonal skills: polite and professional when interacting with employees, clients, and volunteers. Ability to work as part of a team and support a clean and safe workplace culture.
- Familiarity with floor polishing, carpet shampooing or industrial cleaning machines.
