Java Engineer (Contract through April 2026)

Location:
Brooklyn Park, MN (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)

Compensation:
$35–$55/hr W2 + benefits

Employment Type:
Contract (potential to extend)

About the Opportunity

We're seeking a skilled Java Engineer to join an innovative technology team that's redefining the advertising and media landscape. This group is focused on building scalable ad tech platforms—combining first-party data, secure operations, and next-generation marketing solutions that drive measurable results. You'll play a key role in designing and delivering systems that enable self-service advertising capabilities and advanced campaign management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ad tech systems and services.
  • Lead code reviews, design discussions, and testing initiatives to ensure code quality and system performance.
  • Conduct proofs-of-concept for emerging technologies and evaluate cost, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical strategy and architecture.
  • Provide mentorship and resolve complex technical challenges within the team.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Maintain data quality across acquisition, processing, and storage layers.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with Java and REST API development.
  • Hands-on experience developing microservices (Spring Boot) and mono repos.
  • Proficiency with Kafka for messaging and event-driven systems.
  • Working knowledge of databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with JUnit, Mockito, and related testing frameworks.
  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools (Logstash, Kibana, Grafana).
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with Ad Tech platforms (DSP, SSP, Ad Servers).
  • Knowledge of Python and workflow management tools (e.g., Oozie).
  • Experience aligning solutions with advertising or media business goals.
