Job Summary:

The Patient Care Associate plays a key role on the clinical care team by providing direct patient care and essential support functions. This position assists nursing staff with patient care activities, maintains a safe and clean environment, and ensures patient comfort and safety within the clinical setting.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
  • Document intake/output and assist with collecting patient-reported pain scores.
  • Perform clinical procedures such as specimen collection, venipuncture, EKGs, compression device application, skin integrity maintenance, and post-mortem care.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (feeding, bathing, oral care, toileting, ambulation, and mobilization).
  • Assist with dietary tasks including tray delivery/pickup, menu assistance, nutritional supplement preparation, and reporting eating concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment, including room organization, bed stripping, and trash removal.
  • Provide one-to-one patient observation for safety, elopement risk, or suicide prevention.
  • Maintain isolation precautions as directed by nursing staff.
  • Conduct purposeful rounding focusing on toileting, comfort, positioning, and pain; document and escalate concerns.
  • Utilize communication systems (e.g., Vocera) as required.
  • Support patient cultural, emotional, and physical needs with respect and awareness.
  • Perform general clinical support tasks including generating reports and assisting staff as needed.
