About this role:
Carrier is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking sustainability professional to advance Carrier's global corporate sustainability disclosures and strategy. This position will play a critical role in strengthening Carrier's reputation and performance across voluntary and mandatory sustainability disclosures, overseeing ratings and rankings, and embedding sustainability into core business practices.
The Director, Corporate Sustainability supports the advancement of Carrier's sustainability agenda and disclosure to align with the changing global regulations including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Disclosure Standards (ISSB). The ideal candidate brings both strategic vision and the ability to execute on strategy to ensure alignment and performance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management with an understanding of sustainability, stakeholder management, corporate reporting, or investor relations, and be versed in working with sustainability tools and disclosure frameworks and standards such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD, ISSB and CDP. This role requires exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clarify and simplify complex information for diverse audiences, including senior executives and global stakeholders across a range of professions.
Candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and independently while also working collaboratively across departments. A strong attention to detail, commitment to high-quality output, and confidence in making informed recommendations are essential. The role also calls for excellent interpersonal skills, a successful track record in stakeholder engagement, and experience developing sustainability communications for global and multinational audiences.
This position can be located at Carrier's offices in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Atlanta, GA, Syracuse, NY or Indianapolis, IN.
Key Responsibilities:
Sustainability Disclosures & Reporting
Lead the project management of the company's annual sustainability disclosures, ensuring alignment with leading voluntary frameworks such as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), as well as emerging mandatory standards including CSRD and ISSB.
Conduct annual gap analyses of the company's disclosures against frameworks and raters and rankers to stay ahead of sustainability trends and drive continuous improvement and strategic alignment.
Manage and enhance the use of Workiva to streamline sustainability data management, optimize reporting workflows, and support compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
ESG Ratings & Rankings and Customer Requests
Lead response to, monitoring and analysis of company performance across ESG ratings, rankings, and indexes (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, EcoVadis) and proactively identify opportunities for improvement and engage with key stakeholders.
Lead the preparation of the company's CDP questionnaire responses for Climate Change and Water Security, working closely with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Support response to direct customer sustainability/ESG data requests, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent information in alignment with public disclosures and customer-specific requirements.
Communications & Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Sustainability and the CSO to drive sustainability strategy, external engagement, and internal sustainability collaborations.
Lead project management for on-going sustainability activities globally, tracking progress and accountability.
Collaborate with the Sustainability Working Group and the Communications and Marketing teams on the development of strategic sustainability communication plans tailored to key stakeholders (e.g. employees, investors, customers, etc.)
Collaborate with marketing for sustainability-related website content and ensure alignment with public disclosures, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
Support sustainability thought leadership initiatives and events.
Engage with sustainability-related NGOs and industry associations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
10+ years' experience in corporate sustainability and project management
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, SASB FSA Credential, GRI)
Experience with sustainability/ESG reporting tools like Workiva Watershed and Enablon with familiarity with ESG ratings and indexes (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, EcoVadis).
