We're building a reliable roster of talented content shooters who can capture the moments that matter—whether it's a chef plating a dish, a before-and-after transformation, or a business owner's story.

The Role

We're looking for a professional photographer/videographer to join our content production team as an independent contractor. You'll work on-site at client locations throughout Northern NJ, capturing photo and video content that brings their brands to life.

This isn't a full-time position—it's flexible, project-based work perfect for someone who wants creative variety without the 9-to-5. Some weeks you'll have multiple shoots, other weeks might be quieter. We're looking for reliability, not 40 hours.

You'll be the eyes of the brand. Your job is simple: show up prepared, execute the shot list professionally, deliver great footage, and make the client feel confident in their investment.

What You'll Do

Before the Shoot:

  • Review shot lists and creative briefs (provided 24-48 hours in advance)
  • Pack your equipment and confirm logistics
  • Arrive 15-30 minutes early to set up

During the Shoot:

  • Capture professional photo and video content using your own equipment and/or ABMG equipment
  • Execute shot lists efficiently (typically 2-6 hour shoots)
  • Apply technical expertise: composition, lighting, focus, exposure
  • Work independently with minimal hand-holding
  • Maintain professional demeanor with clients

After the Shoot:

  • Upload all raw footage to our cloud storage same day
  • Return any borrowed supplemental equipment
  • Quick notes on shoot highlights or issues (30 seconds, appreciated but not required)

What You DON'T Do:

  • Editing (we have a separate editing team)
  • Client communication or strategy (handled by our Content Project Manager)
  • Pricing or scope decisions on-site

What You Need

Must-Haves:

  • Portfolio showing consistent professional quality projects demonstrating variety)
  • 1-3 years of professional shooting experience (client work, not just personal projects)
  • Your own professional camera kit: DSLR/mirrorless camera, 2-3 lenses (wide, standard, telephoto), basic lighting equipment, audio solution, tripod, memory cards
  • Technical proficiency: Manual exposure, focus techniques, basic lighting, composition fundamentals
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to client locations (Northern NJ area, typically within 30-60 minute radius)
  • Professional reliability: Show up on time (early), communicate proactively, deliver footage same day
  • Weekday availability (most shoots 9am-5pm, occasional evenings/weekends)

Bonus Points:

  • Drone operation (Part 107 certified)
  • Specialized experience: food photography, medical/healthcare content, automotive, real estate
  • Video AND photo proficiency (can shoot both formats)
  • Agency or commercial production background
  • Gimbal/stabilizer skills

Equipment Note: You should have your own professional camera kit. We have supplemental gear available (additional lenses, lighting modifiers, audio equipment) to fill gaps as needed.

What Success Looks Like

First 3 Projects:

  • Show up on time (EARLY) with all necessary equipment
  • Complete 95%+ of shot list requirements
  • Deliver clean, usable footage with minimal technical issues
  • Professional interaction with clients

Long-Term:

  • Consistent quality and reliability across all projects
  • Efficient execution (4-hour shoot takes 4 hours, not 6)
  • Proactive communication if issues arise
  • Creative additions beyond the shot list (gives editors options)
  • Become a go-to shooter we assign first

Compensation & Logistics

Pay: $22-25/hour (based on experience and portfolio strength)

Frequency: Project-based, part-time. Shoot volume varies but expect 2-8 shoots per month as we grow.

Shoot Duration: Typically 2-6 hours per shoot

Employment Type: Independent Contractor you set your own schedule, accept projects that work for you

Travel: Mileage reimbursement for shoots beyond 30 miles

Hiring Process:

  • Portfolio review (2-3 business days)
  • Phone screen minutes)
  • Portfolio review meeting (30 minutes, discuss test results)
  • Onboarding if it's a fit

Timeline: 1-2 weeks from application to first shoot for the right candidate.

  • Show up late without communication
  • Deliver unusable footage due to preventable technical errors
  • Behave unprofessionally with clients
  • Ghost on scheduled shoots
  • Miss deadlines without proactive heads-up
