Responsible for providing customer service and technical support to library patrons at both Douglas County library branches and the bookmobile. Provides lead direction in a specified library area/program such as youth services, adult services, cataloging, information technology, reference, circulation, etc. In addition to specified assignment, the incumbent provides support assistance to library staff, and overall customer service to the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Provides circulation services to patrons including checking materials in and out, sorting books for shelving, discussing library card accounts with patrons, collecting fees, and contacting patrons regarding materials on hold, and/or resolution of problems with patron accounts.
- Works with professional staff to plan and implement programs for patrons.
- Assists with outreach, fund raising, library tours, exhibits and special events
- Oversees specific services such as Homebound Services, Publicity, or Book Sale.
- Assists librarians with programs for all ages.
- Performs general office duties such as sorting mail, creating claims, preparing outgoing mail, receiving and accounting for fees, fines, and other monies, and maintaining files.
- Performs specific tasks related to systems, network, hardware, and software. Leads technology education programs as part of the Library's Technology Team.
- Provides assistance with network and computer services to include installation; troubleshooting; maintenance; network monitoring; instruction to staff, volunteers and patrons in the use of computers, software, mobile devices, and other electronic equipment.
- Composes and distributes information for news releases that promote library programs and functions. Designs promotional graphics for use in flyers, brochures, and on social media.
- Designs, creates, and maintains the library website.
- Provides input into collection development, including selection and de-selection of materials.
- Assists in Technical Service with routine to more complex various tasks related to acquisitions, receiving, cataloguing, collection maintenance, periodical maintenance, Interlibrary Loan, maintenance and update of patron database.
- Provides reference services to patrons; provides instruction and assistance to patrons on the use of library computers, equipment, and the use of the library databases and catalog.
- Trains and supervises volunteers to assist in providing services/programs.
- Carries out and explains library services, activities, and regulations.
- Performs a variety of general support duties such as shelving, organizing collections. Includes accurate handling of petty cash, depositing monies with the County, and receipting transactions.
- Catalogs new materials, updates catalog records, and locates/builds classification numbers.
- Assists supervisors with training, collection development/maintenance, cataloging, information technology operations, interlibrary loan tasks, library programs, and volunteer supervision.
- Occasionally drives library vehicles, including the bookmobile, to specified locations following library services schedule and to maintenance facility for preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma/GED; AND three (3) years of increasingly responsible library work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of public library operations and services.
- Business arithmetic.
- Computer applications related to the work, including Microsoft Office.
- Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Skill in:
- Maintaining accurate records and files.
- Making accurate arithmetic calculations.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
- Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines.
- Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
- Providing good customer service, including some public speaking involving library tours and teaching library skills to small groups.
- Reading and explaining rules, policies and procedures.
- Working successfully with a variety of individuals, in person, in writing, and over the telephone.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Driver's License.

Compensation
Douglas County's compensation system is based on Pay for Performance wherein employees are eligible for annual performance evaluations. The current structure consists of merit increases up to 3% on a qualifying employee's anniversary and Cost of Living Adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index during the first pay period of each fiscal year. The COLA will be up to 5% depending on the CPI each year. Additionally, eligible employees can be recognized for outstanding performance, above and beyond the call of duty, and receive additional compensation through the Recognition of Excellence Program.
