The Wound Care Center is seeking an individual to join their clinical team as a medical assistant trainee. As a medical assistant trainee, you will begin your role in a 12-week paid training program at our on-site Dartmouth Health Career Institute (DHCI) to gain the required education and skills to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.
Once the training program is successfully completed, medical assistants in the Wound Care Center directly aid in clinical duties such as applying topical lidocaine, assisting with wound debridement and application of biologic dressings, applying compression wraps and wound dressings, setting up sterile procedures for podiatry and assisting with procedures. MAs may also do administrative functions such as prior authorizations, medication refills and dressing supply orders.

ResponsibilitiesYou'll begin training to become an MA for the Wound Care Center with an accelerated 12-week session in which you will complete 7 college-level courses to obtain required health sciences, professional and technical skills education through the Dartmouth Health Career Institute (DHCI). The DHCI classroom is location in Lebanon, NH. Successful trainees then sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Exam administered by the National Heathcareer Association (NHA) and move into the Wound Care Center as a full-time Medical Assistant Apprentice to complete a 2,000-hour Registered Apprenticeship through the US Department of Labor to gain more skills and competencies with on-the-job training and mentorship.General Medical Assistant Responsibilities:
Greets, checks in patients, and notifies appropriate provider. Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams.Takes and records vital signs. Informs provider of patient vital signs and concerns.Recognizes and treats emergency patients as a priority, assists with patient examinations and treatments.Handles patient situations over the phone, schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals. Understands limitations in dealing with patients over the phone and involves nursing staff and providers.Register new patients and establishes a medical record.Prepares patient billings.Assists patients by filling out insurance and other forms.Supplies authorized information upon request by third party payors.Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures.Collects and processes routine laboratory specimen.Operates and maintains clinical equipment.Maintains and uses aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material.Cleans, wraps and autoclaves instruments. Cares for supplies and equipment.Performs other duties as required or assigned.Qualifications- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.
- Computer skills strongly preferred.
- High school degree or equivalent
- BLS certification required within 30 days of hire date. Training is provided as part of the DHCI program.
