We're seeking a Software Application Developer with a foundational understanding of Software Development and Support. This role offers a phenomenal opportunity to grow your skills in application support, technical troubleshooting, and custom application development for Workday HCM, while working alongside experienced IT professionals to support HR business requirements.
As a Software Application Developer, within our Information Technology Services Department, you will:
- Provide day-to-day technical support for enterprise applications, especially Workday HCM modules (such as Core HR, Payroll, Benefits, Compensation).
- Troubleshoot and analyze application issues, collaborating with senior team members to recommend and implement effective solutions.
- Assist in developing, testing, and maintaining customized Workday Extend applications (training provided).
- Help monitor production environments, support issue resolution, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders/customers.
- Support system testing, configuration updates, and user training to improve system performance and usability.
- Collaborate with teams across HR, IT, and business units to gather requirements and support system enhancements.
- Stay up to date on Workday platform updates and industry best practices.
- Show curiosity and initiative in learning new tools, systems, and processes.

- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business & Technology Management, or a related field—or have equivalent experience through internships or entry-level roles.
- Have experience in application development, or relevant technical roles.
- Experience with development concepts or languages like Python, C++, SQL, Java, or .NET.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with knowledge and experience in the software development lifecycle.
- Communicate effectively with both technical teams and end users.
- Are familiar with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Hold U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

- Experience supporting Human Resource applications, particularly Workday.
- Exposure to or curiosity about Workday Studio, Extend, Prism, APIs (REST/SOAP), or other HRIS platforms.
- Knowledge of ITSM best practices and or experience using ServiceNow or similar IT ticketing systems.
- Professional Certifications such as ITIL, PMP, HDI, etc.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
