Electrical Engineering Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineering Leader to provide expert technical guidance and oversight of the electrical engineering group. This role involves managing an industrial engineering team to deliver a variety of industrial design projects for the chemical, power, utilities, and manufacturing industries. The ideal candidate will have experience with designing and retrofitting industrial power distribution systems and substations. Additionally, the candidate should possess strong leadership skills and the ability to drive innovation in electrical engineering practices.
Preferred locations include: Wadsworth, OH; Columbus, OH; Pittsburgh, PA; Philadelphia, PA; as well as CDM Smith offices located in New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Georgia.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management: Manage and supervise an industrial engineering team, providing technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff.
Technical Oversight: Independently oversee and provide expert guidance on complex electrical system designs to meet client project requirements.
Compliance Review: Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and sign off on completed designs.
Policy Adherence: Ensure all designs follow firm policies, quality, and practices.
Site Reviews: Perform site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications, updating design requirements as necessary.
Knowledge Contribution: Develop white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs, and submit technical papers for publication in journals.
Proposal Collaboration: Work with sales staff to create proposals in response to RFPs, ensuring adherence to regulations and best practices.
Client Engagement: Meet with current and potential clients to review their design needs and provide technical guidance.
Industry Visibility: Attend conferences and symposia to enhance the visibility of the firm's products and services.
Primary Contact: Act as the main point of contact for external clients and industry contacts, collaborating with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions.
Project Updates: Provide updates to project management as necessary.
Mentorship: Mentor junior staff to develop their skills and prepare them for future growth within the firm.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline.
Professional engineering (PE) license.
15 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Proven experience leading a team of industrial electrical engineers
Understanding of FEL, FEED delivery process
Experience with progressive design build and design build delivery methods.
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to obtain licensing in multiple states
Ability to provide detailed engineering estimate
Ability to maintain project budget and schedule

Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
Expert knowledge of engineering design tools including power system studies
Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices
Background Check and Drug Testing Information
CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as "CDM Smith") reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions.
