Software Engineer – Medical Imaging

Location: Remote

Type: Contract – must be able to work in the US without sponsorship

Commitment: 10-20 hours per week, month to month (anticipating through June of 2026)

Hourly rate: $125-$150 per hour

DeepLook Medical is a small but ambitious healthcare startup on a mission to reinvent how clinicians access and interact with medical images. Our goal is simple: advancing radiology through enhanced imaging visualization. What You'll Do

  • Responsible for algorithm (medical image processing and ML) and application (backend, frontend) development.
  • Build core software that integrates with PACS systems and DICOM viewers
  • Design and optimize deterministic algorithms for clinical reliability.
  • Collaborate with the CTO and extended (vendor) engineering team to shape architecture and product direction.
  • Expertise in writing high quality code and algorithm development in C++ and Python (preferably)
  • Develop REST APIs and backend services in (preferably), working with JSON data flows.
  • Write high-performance C++ code for imaging and algorithm-heavy components.
  • Push clean, tested code to GitHub, and help us keep our workflows smooth.
  • Work in a fast-moving environment where you'll wear many hats.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience with imaging, PACS, and DICOM (this is core to the role).
  • An exceptional algorithm developer, in particular for imaging, image processing, and ML.
  • Exceptional skills in C++ (performance-focused), Python, , and REST API development.
  • Comfort working with structured data formats (JSON, XML).
  • Experience with deterministic algorithm design and optimization.
  • Familiarity with GitHub and collaborative version control.
  • Experience partnering with external engineering firms as an extension of our team
  • Startup mindset: resourceful, self-directed, and comfortable with ambiguity.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with cloud platforms & development (AWS specifically).
  • Knowledge of regulated software environments (FDA).
  • Experience in pursuing AI/ML to identify prospects for new imaging capabilities
